Molly Fillion is Chosen NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Senior guard Molly Fillion (Silverton, OR/Silverton HS/Linn-Benton CC) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Women's Basketball Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending Jan. 11, 2009. Fillion averaged 17.3 points and 13.0 rebounds in three games for the Bearcats.

She scored a career-high 27 points and grabbed 13 rebounds against Whitworth University on Friday, Jan. 9. Against Linfield on Tuesday, Jan. 6, she earned 16 points and hauled down 15 boards. She closed out the week with nine points and 11 rebounds against Whitman College on Saturday, Jan. 10.

During the three games, she scored 52 points, achieved 39 rebounds and earned 10 steals. She was 16 of 32 from the field (50.0%).

Fillion is in her second year at Willamette since transferring from Linn-Benton Community College. Last season, she averaged 13.2 points and 9.6 rebounds per game. In 35 games as a Bearcat, She has accumulated 478 points (13.7 avg.) and 353 rebounds (10.1 avg.).

The Bearcats lost to Linfield, 57-50, fell to Whitworth, 78-69, and were defeated by 24th-ranked Whitman, 61-34. WU is 1-9 on the season, 0-4 in the Northwest Conference.

Willamette is schedule to play at Pacific University on Friday, Jan. 18. Game time in Forest Grove, Ore., will be at 6 p.m. (PST). The 'Cats will complete the week by taking on Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Ore., on Saturday, Jan. 17 at 6 p.m. (PST).
