Molly Fillion Registers 17 Points, 19 Boards, in Loss to Cavaliers

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Molly Fillion (Sr., G, Silverton, OR/Silverton HS/Linn-Benton CC) of Willamette University led all players with 17 points and 19 rebounds, but Concordia University (Ore.) committed just eight turnovers and limited WU to 26.7% shooting, as the Cavaliers defeated the Bearcats, 88-46, on Monday, Dec. 29. The 'Cats fell to 1-5 on the season. It was Willamette's first action since the death of Head Coach Bruce Henderson on Dec. 8 of an apparent heart-related incident. Concordia improved to 10-1 overall.

Kenna Borgmeier led Concordia with 14 points, while Rebecca Gimeno added 11 points and Ann Snodderly scored 10. The Cavaliers shot 45.5% for the game (35 of 77) and held the Bearcats to just 16 baskets on 60 attempts. The Cavaliers, who compete in the NAIA, forced 31 turnovers by Willamette, which competes in NCAA Division III.

Fillion was joined in double figures by Alex Zennan (So., PG, Sammamish, WA/Eastlake HS), who tallied 13 points. Led by Filliion's 19 rebounds and 10 boards by her twin sister, Jenny Fillion (Sr., G, Silverton, OR/Silverton HS/Linn-Benton CC), the Bearcats achieved a 49-44 rebounding edge.

The game was tied at 4-4, but Concordia went on a 12-1 run to take a 16-45 lead at the 16:22 mark. Gimeno scored the first five points of the run and also ended the offensive surge with a three-point play. The Cavaliers increased their advantage to 21-7 with 12:47 left in the first half. CU was in front 46-22 at the intermission.

Zennan scored nine of her points in the first half, while Molly Fillion registered 13 points and 11 rebounds in the second half. For the game, Fillion was 6 of 11 from the field, including 2 for 3 on three-pointers.

Borgmeier and Snodderly each went 5 of 7 on field goals for Concordia, while Gimeno was successful on 5 of 9 field goal attempts. Gimeno's twin sister, Angela Gimeno, provided the Cavaliers with nine points, five assists and five steals.
