Bearcats Rank Nationally in NCAA Division III Women's Basketball Statistics

SALEM, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's basketball team concluded the 2019-20 season with NCAA Division III national statistical rankings in a variety of team categories. Drew Farmer (Sr., PG, Brookings, OR/Bookings-Harbor HS) was ranked in three individual categories as a result of assists she provided to her teammates. A total of 450 colleges and universities were included in the national statistics.

Willamette was 63rd in fewest turnovers (388) and 82nd in fewest fouls (393). The Bearcats also earned several rankings involving 3-point shooting, as they finished 97th in 3-point field goal percentage (32.2%), 118th in 3-point field goals made per game (6.6) and 136th in total 3-pointers made (166). Willamette placed 101st in overall field goal percentage at 40.9%.

Farmer achieved a national ranking of 83rd in assists per game (4.0). She was 111th in total assists (97) and was 160th with a positive assist-to-turnover ratio of 1.21 for the season.

The Bearcats received superior play from several members of the team throughout the season. Kassin Hopkins (Sr., G, Connell, WA/Connell HS/Bellevue College) led the team with 11.1 points per game, while Sami Riggs (Fy., G, La Verne, CA/Bonita HS) averaged 9.9 points per game. Hopkins also led the team by hitting 45 three-point baskets and by converting 79.1% of her free throws.

Ava Kitchin (Fy., F, Redmond, OR/Redmond HS) topped a balanced rebounding effort with 4.6 rebounds per game. Hopkins and Elizabeth Logsdon (Sr., F, McMinnville, OR/McMinnville HS) each hauled down 4.3 rebounds per contest, while Farmer and Ashlyn Ascuena-Mercil (Fy., F, Boise, ID/Timberline HS) recorded 3.7 rebounds per game.

Logsdon attained the highest field goal shooting percentage at 47.5%. She was closely followed by Kitchin at 46.9% and Farmer at 46.7%. Kitchin topped Willamette with 22 blocked shots, while Logdson and Ascuena-Mercil each blocked 16 shots.

Farmer, in addition to leading the team with 97 assists, also ranked first with 36 steals. Hopkins and Amanda Carpenter (Sr., G, Beaverton, OR/Sunset HS) each provided the Bearcats with 47 assists. As a team, WU allowed just 63.6 points per game and held 12 of 25 opponents to 60 points or less.

Willamette finished the season with a 13-12 overall record. It was the Bearcats' second winning record in three years. The Bearcats earned an 8-5 record at Cone Field House.
