Moore Cards an 85 to Lead Bearcats on First Day of UC Santa Cruz Invitational

SANTA CRUZ, Calif. -- Roberta Moore (So., Lakewood, WA/Lakes HS/Lewis & Clark College) of Willamette University shot an 85 in the first round of the UC Santa Cruz Invitational to lead the Bearcats at Pacific Grove Golf Links on Saturday, March 30. George Fox University ended the day at the top of the team leaderboard with an 18-hole score of 294. The tournament will conclude on Sunday, March 31 with the second round.

Moore shot a 5-over 42 on the par 37 front nine with birdies on the fourth and ninth holes. She also had two pars over the first nine holes. She shot a 43 on the par 35 back nine, including three pars.

Also competing for Willamette were Saida Seelig (So., Portland, OR/Wilson HS), Anushka Srivastav (Sr., Pune, India/Mahindra International School), and Mallory Tolliver (So., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS). Seelig shot a 93 and Srivastav carded a 94. Tolliver finished the round at 103.

Katelyn Vo from Pomona-Pitzer College (Calif.) topped the individual leaderboard with a 3-under par 69 with five birdies and two bogeys. Alison Takamiya of George Fox was second at 2-under par 70. Malia Loo of Pomona-Pitzer and Emily Zhou from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (Calif.) were tied for third at 1-under par 71.

Five golfers shot even-par 72 to tie for fifth play after the first round. They were Esther Lee and Jessie King of Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, plus Andrea York from the University of Redlands (Calif.), Makensie Toole of GFU, and Rachel LeMay from Pomona-Pitzer. Kayla Diaz of Drew University (N.J.) was 10th with a 74.

George Fox held the team lead by two strokes with the Bruins' score of 6-over par 294. Pomona-Pitzer was second at 8-over par 296 and CMS was third at 302. Redlands was fourth at 310, with Chapman University (Calif.) in fifth at 317. Occidental College (Calif.) and California Lutheran University were tied for sixth place at 324, just one stroke in front of Whitworth University in eighth place at 325.

Pacific University held ninth place at 329. The University of California-Santa Cruz was 10th at 332, Drew followed in 11th place at 347, and Willamette was 12th at 375.
