Moore Shoots an 80 in the First Round of the NWC Spring Classic

DuPONT, Wash. -- Willamette University's Roberta Moore (So., Lakewood, WA/Lakes HS/Lewis & Clark College) shot a career-low round of 80 during the first round of the 2024 Northwest Conference Spring Classic in women's golf on Sunday, April 7 at The Home Course. The Bearcats ended the first round in seventh place in the team standings.

After 18 holes, Moore was tied with four other golfers for 14th place. All five were just three strokes out of seventh place and four strokes out of fourth place.

Three other Bearcats competed on Sunday and contributed to the team score. Anushka Srivastav (Sr., Pune, India/Mahindra International School) carded a score of 91. Saida Seelig (So., Portland, OR/Wilson HS) shot 94 and Mallory Tolliver (So., Columbus, OH/Upper Arlington HS) shot 101.

The NWC Spring Classic is one of three tournaments used to determine the overall Northwest Conference champion each season. The NWC Spring Classic is worth one-fourth of the title and the NWC Fall Classic is worth one-fourth of the title. The NWC Tournament, set for April 20-21 at Langdon Farms Golf Club in Aurora, Oregon, is worth one-half of the title.

On Sunday at The Home Course, Alison Takamiya of George Fox University shot a 3-under par 69 and held a four-stroke lead over teammate Makensie Toole, who held second place with a 1-over par 73. Liana Brown, also from GFU, was third with a 75.

Three golfers -- Abby Matelksi of Pacific Lutheran University, Beatrice Archer from Whitman College, and Maddie Hahn of Whitworth University -- were tied for fourth place at 76. Ellena Jeong of Whitman was seventh with a 77. Sharing a three-way tie for eighth were Reyna Naranjo form GFU, Kaila Bonawitz of Puget Sound, and Brianna McNelly of Whitworth, all at 78.

George Fox topped the leaderboard in the team standings with a score of 7-over par 295. Whitworth was second at 312, Whitman was third at 315, and Pacific Lutheran followed in fourth at 326. Pacific University held fifth place at 327, while Puget Sound was sixth at 337, Willamette owned seventh place at 366, and Linfield University was eighth at 369. Lewis & Clark College did not enter a full team.

The NWC Spring Classic in women's golf will continue on Monday, April 8 with the final round. Action at The Home Course is set to get underway with tee times starting at 9:33 a.m. PDT.
