SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University rowing teams will begin the 2012 spring season against the University of Puget Sound at the Governor's Cup Regatta on American Lake in Lakewood, Wash. The Bearcats will compete in five races, with the first event scheduled to start at 9 a.m. (PST).

Willamette will enter crews in the women's varsity 8+, women's open 8+, women's varsity 4+, men's varsity 8+ and men's varsity 4+.

The Bearcats and the Loggers of Puget Sound compete in the Northwest Collegiate Rowing Conference (NCRC) and will race against each other several times during the season.

As usual, the women's varsity 8+ is highly anticipated because NCAA Division III focuses on the WV8+ for national qualification based on the entire season. In addition, teams that qualify for the NCAA Championships will compete in the WV8+ at the national level.
