PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Willamette University women's novice 8+ took third place at the Charlie Brown Regatta on Saturday, Oct. 24. In addition, the Bearcats took sixth place in the women's varsity 8+. The regatta, which was held on the Willamette River, was hosted by Lewis & Clark College.

First place in the WN8+ went to Pacific Lutheran University in 17:34. Lewis & Clark placed second at 18:28 and Willamette was third at 19:10. University of Puget Sound placed fourth by reaching the finish line in 19:30.

The UPS "B" crew took fifth place in the WN8+ with a time of 19:45. Seven seconds later at 19:52, was Pacific in sixth place. Pacific Lutheran's "B" crew was seventh in 21:11.

Rowing for the Bearcats in the novice race were Natalie Branch (Fr., Cupertino, California/Homestead HS) at stroke, Allison Davies (Fr., Oceanside, CA/Mission Vista HS) at 7-seat, Elizabeth Crowther (Fr., Boise, ID/Boise High School) at 6-seat, Rachael Christman (Fr., Kennewick, WA/Southridge HS) at 5-seat, Samantha Anderson (Fr., Modesto, CA/Ripon HS) at 4-seat, Catharine Creadick (Fr., Honolulu, HI/Iolani School) at 3-seat, Carli Fawcett (Fr., Rancho Santa Margarita, CA/Mission Viejo HS) at 2-seat, and Annie Jolliff (Fr., Chico, CA/Chico HS) at bow.

The coxswain of Willamett'es WN8+ crew was Laura Polkinghorn (Fr., Camino, CA/El Dorado HS).

In the WV8+, Pacific Lutheran claimed first place, as the Lutes crossed the finish line in 15:46. Lewis & Clark was second in 16:00, while Puget Sound placed third at 16:19. The UPS "B" crew took fourth place at 16:27 and the University of Oregon was fifth at 16:32. Willamette placed sixth in 17:24.

The L&C "B" crew was seventh in the WV8+ at 17:30. The "B" crew for PLU followed in eighth at 17:39, while the Puget Sound "C" crew placed ninth at 18:07.

Willamette's coxswain in the WV8+ was Kyra Farr (Fr., Bellevue, WA/Newport HS).

Carrie Moore (So., Walla Walla, WA/South Eugene HS) rowed stroke, while Sarah Fish (Jr., Issaquah, WA/Holy Names Academy) was 7-seat and Abby Bernhard (So., Seattle, WA/Roosevelt HS) was 6-seat. Miranda Martin (So., St. Louis, MO/Ladue Horton Watkins HS) rowed 5-seat, with Angela Witty (Sr./So., Eugene, OR/Sheldon HS) at 4-seat, Larsen Fellows (Fr., Homer, AK/Homer HS) at 3-seat, Ingrid Avila (So., Redwood City, CA/Summit Prep) at 2-seat, and Julia Di Simone (So., Livermore, CA/Livermore Valley Charter Prep) at bow.

The Charlie Brown regatta concluded Willamette's fall rowing schedule. The Bearcats will return to action during the spring semester.
