Gano Named NWC Defensive Player of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in three games during the week ending Sunday, Oct. 28. Gano achieved a 0.33 goals against average and a total of 11 saves in Willamette's three games.

Gano registered shutout wins over Lewis & Clark College (3-0) on Oct. 23 and Linfield College (2-0) on Oct. 28. The only goal she allowed was by Chapman College in overtime on Oct. 26, as the Panthers edged the Bearcats, 1-0, despite WU achieving a 21-5 edge in total shots.

She earned fives save in the win over L&C, then added two saves in the defensive battle with Chapman. She ended the week by recording four saves against Linfield.

For the season, Gano owns a goals against average of 0.95. She has earned five shutouts to go with a .857 save percentage.

Willamette will complete its season with two games this weekend. The Bearcats will play at Pacific University on Friday, Nov. 2 at 11 a.m. (PDT). Willamette will return home to Salem, Ore., to host Pacific Lutheran University at Sparks Field on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 11 a.m. (PDT).
