Gano Repeats as NWC Defensive Player of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Freshman goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row, after allowing just one goal in the Bearcats' final two games of the season. Gano also registered a total of 16 saves, while earning a 2-0 record during the week ending Nov. 4.

A week ago, Gano was chosen Defensive Player of the Week for the first time, after allowing only one goal in 275 minutes in Willamette's three games between Oct. 23 and Oct. 28. In those games, she went 2-1 with 11 saves and a 0.33 goals against average.

This past weekend, she achieved a 0.50 goals against average for the Bearcats. She allowed one goal in Willamette's 3-1 win over Pacific University (Ore.) on Friday, Nov. 2 and recorded a shutout against Pacific Lutheran University in a 3-0 win over the Lutes on Saturday, Nov. 3. She made 11 saves against Pacific, then contributed five saves versus PLU.

Gano finished the year with a 6-7-2 overall record and a total of six shutouts (fours wins, two 0-0 ties). She also earned a solid 0.89 goals against average and a .870 save percentage. She achieved 94 saves, while playing in all 19 of Willamette's games, including 13 starts.
