Miller Scores Twice, as Willamette Rallies Past Lewis& Clark, 2-1

SALEM, ORE. -- Junior forward Lauren Miller (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) scored two goals, including the game-winner with 4:22 remaining, as Willamette University rallied past visiting Lewis & Clark College, 2-1, in a Northwest Conference game at Sparks Field. Willamette improved its record to 2-4-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the NWC, while Lewis & Clark dropped to 1-6-1 overall, 1-5 in the NWC.

After L&C scored on a 25-yard shot by Aly Robinson at 60:11 that went against the run of play, the Bearcats put together a comeback. Willamette tied the score on Miller's 10-yard shot on a counter-attack at 69:59, then moved in front on Miller's 9-yard header for the game-winning goal.

Miller carried the ball down the left side toward the Pioneers' defense on her first goal, which was unassisted. On the second goal, Meghan Anderson (So., F, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS) received an assist, after passing the ball from the left flank to Miller in the L&C penalty area.

WU concluded the game with a 13-6 edge in total shots. Nine of WU's 13 shots were in the second half. Both teams took four shots on goal.

Kelli Gano (Fr., GK, Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) started in the nets for Willamette and did not allowe a goal, while making two saves in 45 minutes. Lo Holahan (Jr., GK, Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) went into goal in the second half for Willamette and received the win, as she improved to 2-2 in the nets.

The Bearcats achieved eight corner kick -- four in each half. Lewis & Clark earned two corner kicks.

Lisa Housman took four of the Pioneers' six shots, but did not figure into the scoring on L&C's goal. Robinson was assisted on the play by Sarah Keiffer.

Willamette will play at Linfield College on Sunday, Sept. 30. Game time in McMinnville, Ore., is set for 5 p.m. (PDT).
