TACOMA, WASH. -- Annick Lamb from the University of California-Santa Cruz dribbled though a group of players and scored at 86:31, sending the Banana Slugs to a 1-0 victory over Willamette University in a women's soccer game hosted by the University of Puget Sound on Tuesday, Sept. 4. UC-Santa Cruz, playing its third game in five days, improved to 2-1. Willamette, playing in its season opener, fell to 0-1.

The teams played to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes at Willamette last season, and a similar result seemed likely until Lamb's goal broke another scoreless deadlock. UC-Santa Cruz finished the game with a 20-8 edge in total shots, but held a much slimmer 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. The Banana Slugs achieved a 7-4 margin in corner kicks.

UCSC goalkeeper Katie Loomis recorded four saves to earn the shutout. For Willamette, Lo Holahan (Jr., GK, Anacortes, WA/Anacortes HS) registered three saves during the scoreless first half, while Kelli Gano (Fr., GK, Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) allowed the goal and earned two saves over the final 45 minutes.

Willamette's Lauren Miller (Jr., Portland, OR/Northwestern State University, La.) led all players with four total shots. She was credited with two of Willamette's four shots on goal.

The Bearcats return to action on Sunday, Sept. 9, when they will host the University of La Verne (Calif.). Game time at Sparks Field is scheduled to 7 p.m. (PDT).
