SALEM, ORE. -- Alex Batzer (So., MF, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) has been named Northwest Conference Womens Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring all three of Willamettes goals last weekend. The Bearcats won one game and lost one game in a pair of NWC road matches.
Against Whitworth on Saturday, Oct. 18, in a 3-2 loss to the Pirates, Batzer recorded two goals in the second half to rally the Bearcats from a 2-0 deficit. Her goals were scored just 2:37 apart, as she hit the net at 64:11 and 66:48. The Pirates scored the games final goal at 71:43 for the win.
On Sunday against Whitman, she netted the only goal of the game, as the Bearcats defeated the Missionaries, 1-0. Following a corner kick, she received a pass from Beth Tatlock (Jr., F, Denver, CO/Saint Marys Academy HS). Batzer got her foot on the ball and redirected it into the goal to give the Bearcats the lead for good with 1:14 remaining in regulation.
For the season, Batzer is Willamettes top scorer with five goals. She has scored eight goals during her Willamette career, including three goals as a freshman last season.
The Bearcats, currently 8-6 overall and 6-4 in the Northwest Conference, will take on George Fox University at home on Saturday, Oct. 25. Game time at Sparks Field is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).
