Bearcats Shoot Past Lutes, 3-1

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team defeated visiting Pacific Lutheran University, 3-1 on Friday, Nov. 6. Willamette is now 9-8-2 overall and 8-6-1 in the Northwest Conference. The Lutes drop to 5-13-1 overall and 4-10-1 in the NWC.

Senior Beth Tatlock (MF, Denver, CO/St. Mary's Academy) had a game to remember in her last contest at Sparks Field. She scored two goals for WU and tallied one assist.

Her first goal came 6:25 into the first half on a shot from 24 yards out. Her shot found the upper left corner and gave the Bearcats a 1-0 lead. She was assisted by Andrea Rowan (Fr., MF, Boise, ID/Timberline HS).

Tatlock found the back of the net again just fourteen minutes later on a shot from 20 yards out. Her second goal was unassisted and gave WU a 2-0 lead. Tatlock's goals were her first two of the season.

Willamette went ahead 3-0 when Kimber Mattox (So., MF, Bend, OR/Bend HS) scored off an assist from Tatlock at 68:37. Mattox's first goal of the season was from 10 yards out.

The Lutes scored their only goal of the game on a header from six yards out. Mimi Granlund scored the goal and was assisted by Courtney Walker at 75:47

Willamette took 14 shots in the game, compared to Pacific Lutheran's three. The Bearcats achieved three corner kicks. Pacific Lutheran did not attempt a corner kick during the game.

The Bearcats close out the season at Pacific University on Saturday, Nov. 7. Game time is set for 11 a.m. (PST). WU can lock up sole possession of third place in the Northwest Conference with a win at Pacific. WU defeated Pacific, 2-1, earlier this season at Sparks Field.

Beth Tatlock earned two goals and one assist for the Bearcats against Pacific Lutheran.
