Nationally Ranked Puget Sound Defeats Bearcats, 3-0

TACOMA, WASH. -- Janece Levien scored her 17th goal of the season with 1:12 remaining in the first half, and the University of Puget Sound went on to defeat Willamette University, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday, Oct. 25. Puget Sound, ranked #5 in NCAA Division III, improved to 14-1 overall, 11-1 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 8-7-1 overall, 7-5 in the conference.

Levien, the NWC's leading scorer, recorded her goal on a left-footed shot from outside the penalty area. The Loggers added a second goal early in the second half, when Theresa Henle hit the net on a 12-yard shot from the right side at 49:44. Kelly Andersen assisted on the play.

Andersen tallied the final goal of the game at 60:35. She created the shot off her own move and scored unassisted.

UPS goalkeeper Kallie Wolfer recorded four saves over the first 77 minutes, including two saves in the first half while the score was still 0-0. Katie Wheeler added one save for the Loggers to close out the game.

For Willamette, goalkeeper Jill Schneeman (So., Burien, WA/Mount Rainier HS) registered eight saves. She is 4-2 on the season with a goals against average of 0.86.

The Loggers outshot the Bearcats, 27-6, and held a 14-5 edge in shots on goal. Andersen and Christine Isabella each took five shots for UPS to lead all players. Stephanie Skelly (So., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) led Willamette with two shots -- both on goal.

Willamette will play a pair of home games next weekend. On Saturday, Oct. 31, the Bearcats will host Whitworth University at 11 a.m. (PDT). On Sunday, Nov. 1, Willamette will take on Whitman College at 11 a.m. (PST). Both games will be played at Sparks Field on the WU campus.
