Northwest Shuts Out Willamette, 1-0, in Women's Soccer

KIRKLAND, WASH. -- Northwest University scored with less than 10 minutes remaining, as the Eagles defeated the Bearcats, 1-0, on Saturday, Sept. 11. Northwest remained undefeated at 2-0-2 on the season. Willamette fell to 1-3 with the loss to the Eagles.

After battling through 80 scoreless minutes, Northwest finally found the back of the net during the 82nd minute on a header. Stephanie Cummins scored the lone goal of the game for the Eagles.

Willamette attempted 10 shots in the game, five of them on goal. Senior Alex Batzer (F, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) had a team-high three shots on goal.

The Eagles attempted 15 shots. Northwest attempted five shots on goal.

Goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Sr., Damascus, OR/Cleveland HS) played the entire game for WU. She registered four saves and allowed just the one goal.

Jessica Kane picked up the victory in goal for the Eagles. She recorded five saves in 90 minutes of play.

The Bearcats open Northwest Conference play on Wednesday, Sept. 15 in McMinnville, Ore., against Linfield College. The game is set to begin at 5 p.m. (PDT).
