Skelly Named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University women's soccer player Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Women's Soccer (Offensive) Student-Athlete of the Week. Skelly scored three goals during the weekend to move her season total to nine goals in 15 games.

Skelly scored twice against George Fox University on Saturday, Oct. 16. After leaving the game in the first half with an injury, Skelly returned to score the game-tying goal in the second half to help send the game into overtime. In overtime, she scored the game-winning goal. The George Fox goalkeeper punched the ball out on a Willamette corner kick but Skelly was able to score on the put back for her eighth goal of the season.

Her ninth goal came against Lewis & Clark College on Sunday, Oct. 17. The goal moved Willamette into a 2-2 tie with the Pioneers. The Bearcats eventually ended the game in a 2-2 tie after neither team scored in the overtime periods.

Skelly now has 17 career goals in 50 games. She has started 45 games and scored six game-winning goals.

Willamette is 6-8-1 overall and 5-5-1 in the Northwest Conference. The team is back in action on Sunday, Oct. 24 against the University of Puget Sound. The game will be Willamette's final home contest of the season. Game time is set for 12 p.m. (PDT) at Sparks Field.
