Women's Soccer Battles Puget Sound to 1-1 Tie

Skelly Scores 10th Goal of the Season

SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team played the University of Puget Sound to a 1-1 double overtime tie in Northwest Conference action on Sunday, Oct. 24. Willamette is now 6-8-2 overall and 5-5-2 in the NWC. Puget Sound is now 13-1-2 overall and 10-1-1 in the NWC. The Loggers entered the game ranked 20th in the latest DIII National Poll.

Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) gave Willamette an early advantage when she scored her tenth goal of the season. Skelly scored from 17 yards out in the 4th minute. She was assisted by Alex Batzer (Sr., F, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) on the play.

The Loggers evened the score at 1-1 when Christine Isabella scored in the 10th minute of play. The goal was Isabella's sixth of the season.

Puget Sound had seven shots on goal during the game but Willamette goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Sr., Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) made six saves.

For the game, Willamette attempted six shots compared to Puget Sound's 13. Play was physical throughout the game and 27 fouls were called.

Before the game Willamette recognized their four seniors for their contributions to the program during their time at WU.

Willamette is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 30 against Whitworth University. The game will begin at 12 p.m. (PDT) in Spokane, Wash.
