Women's Soccer Concludes Season with 1-0 Victory

Skelly Scores 11th Goal for WU

FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team concluded the 2010 season with a 1-0 victory over Pacific University on Saturday, Nov.6. Willamette ends the season 7-11-2 overall and 6-8-2 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats finished fifth in the NWC. Pacific ended the season 7-11-2 overall and 8-6-2 in the NWC, good for 4th place.

Junior Stephanie Skelly (MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) scored her 11th goal of the season for the Bearcats. Skelly scored the game-winning goal on a header in the 7th minute. She was assisted by Beth Freese (Sr., F, Puyallup, WA/Emerald Ridge HS) on the play.

Skelly has now scored 19 goals during her career at Willamette. She was named First Team ESPN College Division Academic All-District VIII earlier this season.

The Bearcats dominated play in the first half, attempting 11 shots and not allowing the Boxers a single shot attempt. Pacific had nine shot attempts in the second half but were unable to score.

Senior Kelli Gano (GK, Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) closed out her career with a win in goal for the Bearcats. She made three saves, all in the second half, en route to the shutout.
