TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team pushed the University of Puget Sound, which is ranked #12 in the latest national poll, into double overtime before falling 2-1 on Saturday, Sept. 18. Puget Sound improved to 4-0-1 overall, 1-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 1-5-0 overall, 0-2 in the NWC.

The Loggers scored first on a corner kick near the end of the first half. The ball bounced around in the box before Serwaah Fordjour put it into the goal.

Stephanie Skelly (Jr., MF, Poulsbo WA/North Kitsap HS) evened the score at 1-1 early in the second half. The junior intercepted a pass and banked in a shot off the crossbar for an unassisted goal. It was Skelly's third goal of the season.

After battling through the rest of regulation and the first overtime, the Loggers finally broke the tie in the second sudden-victory period. Theresa Henle juggled the ball and shot from 17 yards out to win the game for UPS.

Willamette played defensive soccer for most of the game, as the Loggers out-shot the Bearcats 23-6. While Willamette only recorded six shots, four of them were on goal.

Senior goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Damascus, OR/Cleveland HS) played the entire duration of the game for WU. The vocal senior recorded five saves.

Willamette will play another NWC road game on Saturday, Sept. 25 in Portland, Ore. The Bearcats will face the Pioneers of Lewis & Clark College. Game time is set for 12 p.m. (PDT).
