Willamette Shuts Out Lewis & Clark, 3-0

Skelly Scores Two Goals for Fourth Time this Season

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Stephanie Skelly (Sr., MF, Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) scored two goals and the Willamette University defense allowed just nine shots -- only two on goal -- as the Bearcats shut out Lewis & Clark, 3-0, on Sunday, Oct. 16 at Griswold Stadium. WU moved above .500 for the season at 7-6-1 and improved to 6-3-1 in the Northwest Conference. L&C dropped to 2-12-2, 1-10-1 in the NWC.

Skelly earned two goals in the same game for the fourth time this season. She is Willamette's leading scorer with 10 goals and one assist for 21 total points.

The Bearcats scored a goal with about five minutes left in the first half and took a 2-0 lead by scoring again just over five minutes into the second half.

Willamette's first goal was recorded at 40:38 by Cat Carragee (So., D, Stanford, CA/Menlo Atherton HS). She was assisted on the goal by Andi Rowan (Jr., MF, Boise, ID/Timberline HS). WU's second goal was tallied at 50:45 by Skelly on an unassisted play.

Skelly added more insurance with a goal at 72:42, as she found a way to get open on the play and sent the ball into the net. The goal was unassisted.

For the game, Skelly took four shots and placed three of the shots on goal. Paige Lancourt (So., D/MF, Eagle, ID/Eagle HS) contributed three shots for the Bearcats, who gained a 15-9 shooting advantage. The Bearcats created an 8-2 edge in shots on goal and held a slimmer 4-3 margin in corner kicks.

Sarah Breninger topped Lewis & Clark with four shots. One of her shots required a save by WU goalkeeper Nicole Price (So., Auburn, WA/Thomas Jefferson HS). Natalie Levy and Andi Glaeser took two shots each for L&C, with Levy earning the Pioneers' other shot on goal.

Price finished with two saves while recording her first shutout of the season. The Bearcats have achieved three shutouts overall. L&C goalie Elise Delgado made five saves for the Pioneers.

Willamette will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 22 with a home game against Pacific Lutheran University. Game time at Sparks Field is scheduled for 12 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats also will play at home on Sunday, Oct. 23, when they will take on the University of Puget Sound at 12 p.m.
