WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Whitman College received a goal from Jaclyn Rudd on a restart at 66:32, as the Missionaries broke a scoreless tie on their way to a 1-0 win over visiting Willamette University on Saturday, Sept. 15. With the victory, Whitman improved to 2-4 overall, 1-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 3-3, including 1-1 in the NWC.

For the match, Whitman took 11 total shots and placed five of the shots on goal. Willamette earned five total shots, including two shots on goal. The Missionaries attained a 6-1 advantage in corner kicks.

In the first half neither team found the back of the net. WU goalkeeper Nicole Price (Jr., Auburn, WA/Thomas Jefferson HS) recorded two saves during the half. A shot by Sarah Desautels (So., F, Snohomish, WA/Glacier Park HS) of Willamette was kept out of the goal by the play of a Whitman defender at 28:44.

The Missionaries claimed a 6-2 margin in shots during the final 45 minutes. Desautels had the first shot of the second half for the Bearcats at 50:49, but sent the ball high. Rudd of Whitman took the next shot and missed wide of the goal at 52:17.

Whitman achieved three more shots without scoring, including an attempt by Taylor Thomas that was saved by Price at 63:20.

Rudd connected for the game's only goal just over three minutes later. She scored an unassisted goal on a free kick from the right side of the field.

Both goalies registered a save between the 78th and 81st minutes. Price stopped a shot by MacKenzie Hughes of Whitman at 77:23. Emily Davis earned a save for Whitman by preventing a shot by Shannon Scott (Sr., D, Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) from reaching the goal.

The Bearcats will complete their road trip on Sunday, Sept. 16, when they take on Whitworth University in NWC action at 12 p.m. (PDT).
