Desautels Chosen First Team All-NWC in Women's Soccer

Leads Bearcats with 49 Shots, including 21 Shots on Goal

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior midfielder Sarah Desautels (Snohomish, WA/Glacier Park HS) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2014 season in voting by the league's head coaches of women's soccer.

Desautels received All-NWC honors all four years. She was chosen Second Team All-NWC in 2013 and received Honorable Mention All-NWC recognition in 2011 and 2012.

A total of 32 athletes were named to the 2014 All-NWC Women's Soccer Team. Twelve players were chosen for the First Team, with 12 players on the Second Team and eight players earning Honorable Mention.

University of Puget Sound midfielder Amalia Acorda-Fey was named NWC Offensive Player of the Year, while Pacific Lutheran University goalkeeper Takara Mitsui was chosen NWC Defensive Player of the Year. Seth Spidahl from PLU was selected as the NWC Coach of the Year.

First Team All-Northwest Conference


Sarah Desautels (Sr., MF) tied for the Willamette lead with three goals this season. She led the Bearcat with 49 total shots and was first on the team with 21 shots on goal. She scored a goal in two of the last four games, including the game-winner in a 1-0 win over Pacific University in two overtimes on Saturday, Nov. 8.

She was one of just three Willamette players who started all 20 games this season. During her career with the Bearcats, she started all 80 games with 72 starts. She scored 15 career goals to along with four assists for 34 total points. She took a total of 184 shots, including 90 shots on goal.

The Bearcats went 2-0-1 in the final three games of the season to move into seventh place in the NWC standings. Willamette was 4-14-2 overall and 3-11-2 in the NWC.

Willamette defeated Pacific Lutheran 1-0 in regulation on Friday, Nov. 7, one day before the double-overtime win over Pacific. PLU held sole possession of the first place in the NWC before losing to the Bearcats.
