Puget Sound Defeats Bearcats, 6-3, in Final Regular Season Match

TACOMA, WASH. -- The University of Puget Sound defeated Willamette University, 6-3, in the final regular season women's tennis match for both teams on Saturday, April 14. UPS improved to 13-4 overall, 12-4 in the Northwest Conference. The Loggers are tied with Whitman College for second place in the NWC, but UPS has the tie-breaker. As a result, UPS will receive a first round bye in the NWC Tournament, set for April 20-21 in Yakima. Wash.

Willamette fell to 7-13 overall, 6-10 in the NWC. The Bearcats will have the sixth and final seed in the NWC Tournament. Lewis & Clark College can tie the Bearcats for sixth place if the Pioneers defeat Linfield College on Sunday, but Willamette has already secured the tie-breaker with a 12-6 aggregate results in head-to-head matches.

In Saturday's loss to Puget Sound, Willamette junior Alaine Anderson (Santa Ana, CA/Foothills HS) extended her winning streak in singles to 11 consecutive matches with a 1-6, 6-2, (10-6) victory over Katie Schultz. Anderson and Schultz played a super tie-breaker rather than a third set.
