Palmer and Gutierrez Reach Semifinals in Doubles before Falling to Top Seeds

USTA/ITA Pacific Northwest Fall Championships Continue in Salem

SALEM, ORE. -- The second day of the USTA/ITA Pacific Northwest Fall Championships in women's tennis was hosted by Willamette University on Sunday, Oct. 2. Most of the matches were played indoors at the Courthouse Tennis Club with the exception of the consolation doubles matches, which were indoors at the Salem Swim and Tennis Club.

Singles action advanced through the quarterfinals, leaving only the semifinals and the final for Monday, Oct. 3. Doubles teams played through the semifinals, setting up the final match for Monday.

All of Monday's matches will be played at the Courthouse Tennis Club (1379 Madison St. NE in Salem, Ore.). The semifinals in singles will start at 9 a.m., followed by the singles final and then the doubles final.

Willamette's Shannon Palmer (Sr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS), seeded #6, reached the quarterfinals in singles before losing to the #2 seed, Alyssa Roberg from Whitman, 6-2, 6-2. Palmer also combined efforts with teammate Sabrina Gutierrez (So., Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park HS) to make it to the semifinals in doubles. Palmer and Gutierrez, seeded #4, were defeated by #1-seeded Roberg and Courtney Lawless, 8-4, for a berth into the Regional Championship match.

The consolation brackets in both singles and doubles were completed on Sunday.

Listed below are the players who advanced through Sunday's action, either to reach the final day of the main draw in singles or doubles, or to win a consolation bracket.

Singles Bracket (Seeds in parentheses)

The semifinalists are:

Abby Olbrich (1), Linfield
Erica Bosman (7), Whitworth
(Albrich and Bosman will play in the semifinals)

Morgan Lawless, Whitman
Alyssa Roberg (2), Whitman
(Lawless will play Roberg in the semifinals)

Doubles Bracket

The finalists are:

Courtney Lawless and Alyssa Roberg (1), Whitman
Caroline Brigham and Abby Olbrich (3), Linfield
(Lawless-Roberg will play Brigham-Olbrich in the finals)

Singles Consolation Bracket

The winner is:

Alli Marshall (4), won the consolation singles final be default. She also advanced to the final by default. She won three consolation matches over the weekend before advancing twice by default.

Doubles Consolation Bracket

The winners are:

Hannah Palkowitz and Lizzy Schiller, Whitman, won the consolation doubles final by defeating Griffith and Inn, George Fox, 8-4.

Shannon Palmer of Willamette reached the quarterfinals in singles and the semifinals in doubles.
