Poltavski is Selected as First Team All-Northwest Conference

Gutierrez Named to Second Team

SALEM, ORE. -- Sophomore Denise Poltavski (So., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2012-13 season as selected by the NWC head coaches. A total of just eight players from throughout the conference received First Team honors.

Poltavski has received All-NWC recognition in each of her first two seasons with the Bearcats. She was selected Second Team All-NWC as a freshman in 2011-12.

In addition, Sabrina Gutierrez (Jr., Newbury Park, CA/Newbury Park HS) of Willamette has been chosen Second Team All-NWC for the third year in a row.

Poltavski achieved an 8-7 record in singles despite moving up from #3 singles a year ago to playing mostly #1 singles this spring. She went 8-5 at the #1 position. Including her freshman season, Poltavski has a 21-9 overall singles record.

Gutierrez went 7-8 this spring in singles, including 7-5 at #2 singles. She also played mostly at #2 singles in 2011-12, when she finished 9-8 overall.

Together, Poltavski and Gutierrez attained an record of 7-8 in doubles, all at the #1 position. Including one match each with another player, Poltavksi was 7-9 overall in doubles and Gutierrez finished 8-8 overall.

Gutierrez and Poltavski each reached the Round of 16 in singles at the Pacific Northwest Championships in the fall of 2011. Poltavski advanced to the semifinals in singles and to the quarterfinals in doubles with Rachel Heringer (Fr., Salem, OR/South Salem HS) at the Pacific Northwest Championships in the fall of 2012, while Gutierrez was studying abroad.
