Poltavksi Chosen NWC Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week

Earns Two Wins in Singles and Two Wins in Doubles

SALEM, ORE. -- Denise Poltavski (Sr., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in matches against University of Puget Sound on April 3 and George Fox University on April 4. It is the second time she has received the award this year.

During the week, Poltavski earned a 2-0 record in singles and a 2-0 record in doubles. She is now 9-4 in singles and 8-6 in doubles this season.

Against Puget Sound, Poltavski downed Elizabeth Chao at #1 singles, 6-0, 6-2, and combined with Mikaila Smith (Fr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS) for an 8-1 win over Chao and Tresa Bild at #1 doubles. WU defeated the Loggers, 6-3, at the Courthouse Tennis Center.

In Willamette's match at George Fox, Poltavski defeated Sarah Tuemmler at #1 singles in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set, 7-5, 0-6, 10-8. Poltavski teamed with Smith to win #1 doubles, 8-4, versus Tuemmler and Chantelle Hadeed.

Willamette will play two more Northwest Conference matches this weekend. The Bearcats will host Whitman College on Saturday, April 11 at the WU Tennis Courts, with match time set for 3 p.m. (PDT). On Sunday, April 12, the Bearcats will travel to Forest Grove, Oregon, to take on Pacific University at 1 p.m.

Denise Poltavski went 2-0 in singles and 2-0 in doubles for the Bearcats last week.
