Lewis & Clark Defeats Bearcats, 9-0, in Women's Tennis

PORTLAND, ORE. -- Lewis & Clark College defeated Willamette University, 9-0, in women's tennis on Friday, Feb. 20, in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams. L&C improved to 1-2 overall and to 1-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 0-4 overall, and 0-1 in the NWC.

At #1 singles, Summer Garrison of Lewis & Clark defeated Denise Poltavski (Sr., Woodland Hills, CA/El Camino Real HS) of Willamette. After winning 6-1 in the first set, Garrison edged out Poltavksi 6-4 in the second set. L&C won all six singles matches in straight sets.

The Pioneers won #1 doubles, as Christine Eliazo and Kacey Incerpi outscored Poltavski and Mikaila Smith (Fr., Mill Valley, CA/Tamalpais HS), 8-4.

Claudia Lew and Summer Garrison prevailed at #2 doubles for L&C, 8-3, over Emily Guimont (Jr., El Dorado Hills, CA/Folsom HS) and Alicia Sohn (So., Tustin, CA/Arnold O. Beckman HS). Aurora Garrison and Wiktoria Plawska won for the Pioneers at #3 doubles, 8-0.

Willamette's next match is scheduled for Saturday, Feb. 28, when the Bearcats will host Whitworth University in NWC action. Match time is slated for 10 a.m. (PST) at the Courthouse Tennis Center.
