Castillo Named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week for Third Time in 2010

SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University runner Leo Castillo (Jr., Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week for the third time this season. Castillo earned this week's honor for his efforts at the Bill Dellinger Invitational, hosted by the University of Oregon on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Castillo placed 24th in the highly competitive 8-kilometer men's race. He completed the course in 24:38.62. The meet included three Top 11 teams from NCAA Division I (#3 Oregon, #8 Portland, #11 Wisconsin).

Earlier this season, Castillo was named NWC Men's Cross Country Student-Athlete of the Week after solid performances at the Pier Park Invitational on Sept. 10 and the Charles Bowles Willamette Invitational on Oct. 2. Castillo's time of 24:24.31 at the Willamette Invitational placed him second on Willamette's all-time Top 10 list for 8-kilometers.

A group of runners from the Willamette men's cross country team will compete at the Beaver Classic in Corvallis, Ore., on Saturday, Oct. 23. Meet time is set for 9:45 a.m. at Avery Park.

Leo Castillo was Willamette's top finisher at the Bill Dellinger Invitational.
