  • MacMillan Chosen First Team All-Northwest Conference

    SALEM, ORE. -- Senior men's tennis player Eric MacMillan (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) of Willamette University has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2008 season, as chosen by the NWC head coaches. MacMillan was one of eight athletes named to the First Team, with six players receiving Second Team recognition.

    YAKIMA, WASH. -- Linfield College won all three doubles matches to build an early lead, then split the six singles matches, on its way to a 6-3 victory over Willamette University at the Northwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament, Saturday, April 19 at the Yakima Tennis Club. With the win, Linfield took third place in the tournament.
  • Bearcats Edge Whitworth at NWC Tournament, 5-4

    YAKIMA, WASH. -- Willamette University won two doubles matches and three singles matches to slip past Whitworth University, 5-4, in the first round of the Northwest Conference Men's Tennis Tournament on Friday, April 18 at the Yakima Tennis Club. It was the second year a row that Willamette dropped two 5-4 decisions to the same team in conference play, only to avenge those losses with a victory by the same margin at the NWC Tournament.
  • Top-Seeded Whitman Holds of Bearcats, 6-3, to Reach Finals

    Whitman, ranked #20 in the nation and #5 in the NCAA Division III West Region, improved to 21-9 on the season. The Missionaries will compete in the NWC Championship match against Pacific Lutheran University on Saturday. PLU defeated Linfield, 5-4, in the other semifinal match.
  • Bearcats Fall to Puget Sound, 6-3

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The University of Puget Sound won all three matches in doubles, starting the Loggers on their way to defeating Willamette University, 6-3, in Northwest Conference men's tennis action on Saturday, April 12. UPS moved to 7-9 overall, 7-9 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 6-9 overall, 6-8 in the conference.
  • Willamette Routs Pacific, 9-0, in Men's Tennis

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University ended the regular season with a 9-0 victory over Pacific University on Sunday, April 13 at the WU Tennis Courts. The win enabled the Bearcats to finish fifth in the Northwest Conference standings at 8-8, one match in front of the University of Puget Sound, which took sixth place at 7-9.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University won all six singles matches as the Bearcats defeated George Fox University, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday, April 13. The Bearcats upped their record to 7-9 overall and to 7-8 in the NWC. George Fox dropped to 2-16 overall, including 2-13 in the NWC.

    AUBURN, WASH. -- Willamette University and Green River Community College played a very competitive exhibition match on Friday, April 11, before the Bearcats prevailed, 6-3. Five of the six singles matches went to three sets and two of the doubles matches were decided by narrow margins.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and George Fox University have tried to play a men's tennis match on the GFU campus two times in the past week. Both times, the weather got in the way as rain prevented the teams from playing.
  • Bearcats and Bruins Rained Out in Men's Tennis

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- For the second time in three days, the Willamette University versus George Fox University men's tennis teams were unable to play a Northwest Conference match due to rain. The match, originally set for Saturday, April 5 in Newberg, Ore., was rained out over the weekend and was rescheduled for Monday, April 7. On Monday, the rain returned, once again preventing the Bearcats and the Bruins from playing. No make-up date has bee determined.
  • WU Downs Pioneers in Men's Tennis, 5-4

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University won two of three doubles matches, then split the six single matches, to defeat Lewis & Clark College, 5-4, in Northwest Conference men's tennis action, Saturday, April 5 at the Tennis Dome on the L&C campus in Portland, Ore. Willamette upped its record to 6-8 on the season, including 6-7 in the NWC. The Pioneers fell to 4-15 overall, 3-13 in the conference.
  • Whitman Remains Undefeated in NWC with 9-0 Win over Bearcats

    Whitman College, ranked #18 in NCAA Division III, improved to 11-0 in the Northwest Conference with a 9-0 win over Willamette University on Saturday, March 29 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. The Missionaries upped their overall record to 13-8. Willamette fell to 5-7 overall, 5-6 in the NWC.
  • Whitworth Edges Bearcats, 5-4, for Second Time this Season

    SALEM, ORE. -- Whitworth University held off Willamette University, 5-4, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match at the Courthouse Tennis Club on Saturday, March 29. It was the second victory by a single point for the Pirates against the Bearcats this season. Whitworth also defeated Willamette 5-4 on Feb. 22 in Spokane, Wash.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College defeated Willamette University, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Sunday, March 16. The Wildcats improved to 7-6 overall, 7-3 in the NWC, while Willamette dropped to 5-6 overall, 5-5 in the conference.

    BEAVERTON, ORE. -- Willamette University cruised past Pacific University, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Friday, March 7 at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center. The Bearcats opened the competition by winning all three doubles matches, then swept through the singles matches, losing just one set. WU improved to 4-4 overall, including 4-3 in the NWC. Pacific fell to 0-8 overall, with all eight losses in conference play.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior tennis player Eric MacMillan (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) has been named Northwest Conference Player of the Week for his efforts in leading the Bearcats to wins against George Fox University and Lewis & Clark College last weekend. Willamette defeated George Fox, 8-1, on Friday, Feb. 29, then downed Lewis & Clark, 8-1, on Saturday, Mar. 1.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Andrew Murakami (Jr., Wahiawa, HI/U. of Redlands) and Micah Mack (So., Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee HS) of Willamette University edged George Allen and Dirk Frouws of Lewis & Clark College 8-6 at #1 doubles, completing a sweep of doubles for WU and starting the Bearcats on their way to an 8-1 victory over the Pioneers, Saturday, March 1 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. Willamette evened its Northwest Conference record at 3-3, while improving to 3-4 overall. L&C ended the match at 2-5 on the season -- all in the NWC.

Willamette upped its record to 2-4 on the season, 2-3 in the NWC. George Fox dropped to 0-6, with every loss occurring in conference play.

Whitman, ranked #15 nationally in NCAA Division III, improved to 5-6 overall, 5-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 1-4 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.

Whitworth improved to 6-2 on the season, including 6-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-3 overall, 1-2 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Senior Eric MacMillan (Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) at #1 singles and senior Fitz Paccione (Encinitas, CA/Cathedral Catholic) at #4 singles each rallied from a 5-4 deficit in the third set to win 7-5, sending Willamette University to a 5-4 team victory over Northwest Conference rival Linfield College, on Sunday, Feb. 17 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. The Bearcats improved to 1-2 on the season, 1-1 in the NWC. Linfield fell to 1-5 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Pacific Lutheran University defeated Willamette University, 7-2, in a Northwest Conference men's tennis match on Saturday, Feb. 16 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. PLU, which defeated Lewis & Clark earlier in the day, 9-0, improved to 3-3 on the season, 3-1 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 0-2 overall, 0-1 in the NWC.
  • Bearcats Fall to Pomona-Pitzer, 7-2, in California

    PLEASANTON, CALIF. -- The Willamette University men's tennis team opened the 2008 spring season with a 7-2 loss to Pomona-Pitzer, on Saturday evening, Feb. 2, at neutral indoor courts in Pleasanton, Calif. The Bearcats recorded wins at #2 and #3 singles, and almost defeated Pomona-Pitzer's top doubles team, but the Sagehens managed to sweep the doubles positions and win four of six singles matches.
  • Bearcats Set to Open Season in Santa Cruz, Calif.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's tennis team is scheduled to open the 2008 spring season on Saturday, Feb. 2, with a pair of dual matches in Santa Cruz, Calif. Willamette is set to take on the University of California-Santa Cruz at 2 p.m. (PST), followed by a match against Pomona-Pitzer at 6 p.m. (PST).

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Eric MacMillan (Sr., Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) of Willamette University defeated teammate Matt Houser in the semifinals of the singles consolation bracket, before losing to Mark Magdoano of Linfield College in the consolation finals, at the Wilson/ITA Men's Tennis Small College Regional on Sunday, Sept. 23. The Wilson/ITA Regional was held in McMinnville, Ore., and was hosted by Linfield.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Two Willamette University players have reached the semifinals of the singles consolation bracket at the Wilson/ITA Men's Tennis Small College Regional and will face each other on Sunday, Sept. 23, when the tournament continues at Linfield College in McMinnville, Ore. Eric MacMillan (Sr., Twin Falls, ID/Twin Falls HS) defeated John Demars of Pacific Lutheran University, 6-4, 6-3, in a consolation quarterfinal match. Also winning in the consolation quarterfinals for Willamette was Matt Houser, who defeated James Josmer from the University of Puget Sound, 6-0, 6-3.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette University's doubles team of Andrew Murakami and Micah Mack (So., Wenatchee, WA/Wenatchee HS) advanced into the quarterfinals of the Wilson/ITA Men's Tennis Small College Regional on Friday, Sept. 21 at Linfield College. Murakami and Mack, seeded #6, will take on the #1 seeded team of Matt Solomon and Etienne Moshevich from Whitman College on Saturday, Sept. 22 at 12:30 p.m. (PDT).
  • Neil Patel Hired as Head Coach of Men's Tennis

    SALEM, ORE. -- Neil Patel has been hired as the head menā??s tennis coach at Willamette University and will begin his duties immediately. Patel, a recent graduate of Pitzer College, played four years of tennis for Pomona-Pitzer. At Willamette, he takes over for Jon Endrikat, who recently completed his MBA degree at Willamette and is pursuing business opportunities.
