    SALEM, ORE. -- Wally Wing has been hired by Willamette University as the interim head coach of women's basketball, Director of Athletics David Rigsby recently announced. Wing previously served as an assistant men's basketball coach with the Bearcats.

The Pirates placed four players in double figures, led by Lauren Picha, who achieved a game-high 16-points.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Whitman College shot 50.9% for the game, including 56.0% in the second half, as the Missionaries defeated visiting Willamette University, 75-51, in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Friday, Feb. 17 at George Ball Court. Whitman hit 14 of 25 shots in the second half to finish 29 of 57 overall. Jenele Peterson topped Whitman with 19 points and seven assists.

The Bruins received 16 points from Keisha Gordon to lead the way, while Jami Roos added 10 points, and a Hannah Munger contributed eight points and 12 rebounds.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's basketball team will take on Lewis & Clark College at Cone Field House on Thursday, Feb. 9, in a Northwest Conference game. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. (PST). The game was originally scheduled for Friday, Feb. 10, but was moved to avoid conflicts with the inauguration of Willamette President Stephen Thorsett.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Junior guard Kristina Williams scored a game-high 28 points to help Lewis & Clark College, ranked #9 in the D3hoops.com Top 25, fend off Willamette University in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Thursday, Feb. 9. Lewis & Clark held just a 41-36 lead with 17:55 remaining in the game, but the Pioneers followed with a 15-5 run over the next five minutes to gain control in a 77-58 victory over the Bearcats.

Pacific upped its record to 11-9 overall, 4-8 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette fell to 1-20 overall, 0-12 in the conference.

The Wildcats shot 46.2% in the first half (12 of 26), while hitting 15 of 19 free throws (78.9%).

    PARKLAND, WASH. -- Senior forward Kaileigh Westermann (Belfair, WA/South Kitsap HS) hauled down a career-high 16 rebounds for Willamette University, but it wasn't enough to offset solid shooting and defense by Pacific Lutheran University, as the Lutes outscored the Bearcats, 71-52, on Saturday, Jan. 28. Samantha Potter scored 23 points to lead PLU to the victory.

Kelsey McKinnis led the Loggers with 18 points on 7 of 13 shooting. Jocelyn Riordan added 13 points and grabbed a game-high 10 rebounds for UPS.

The Pioneers improved to 14-1 overall, 5-1 in the Northwest Conference, while WU dropped to 1-14 on the season, 0-6 in the NWC.

The win at the Wheeler Sports Center improved GFU to 14-0 overall and to 5-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-13 on the season, 0-5 in the NWC.

Nordlien scored 17 points and grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go with two assists and three steals.

McKinnis hit 7 of 12 shots from the field, including 4 of 6 on 3-pointers. She also went 5 for 6 at the line and earned five rebounds.

In the opening game of the tournament, Vanguard University defeated Northwest Christian University, 86-65.

The eight-team tournament will included two games at Willamette and two games at Corban on Thanksgiving Day, plus four games at Corban on Friday and four games hosted by the Warriors on Saturday.
