Palmer is Chosen First Team All-Northwest Conference
April 21, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University women's tennis standout Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2008-09 season. Palmer was one of eight NWC athletes chosen for the First Team. An additional six athletes were named to the Second Team. -
Lewis & Clark Downs Willamette in NWC Fifth Place Match, 7-2
April 18, 2009YAKIMA, WASH. -- Lewis & Clark College earned a 2-1 lead in doubles, including a tie-breaker win at #1 doubles, as the Pioneers gained an early edge on their way to a 7-2 victory over Willamette University in the fifth place match of the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament, Saturday, April 18 at the Yakima Tennis Center. L&C improved to 14-9. Willamette ended the season at 8-13 overall.

Whitman Defeats Bearcats at NWC Women's Tennis Tournament, 8-1
April 17, 2009YAKIMA, WASH. -- Whitman College defeated Willamette University, 8-1, in a first round match at the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Tournament on Friday, April 17 at the Yakima Tennis Center. Whitman upped its record to 14-8, while Willamette fell to 8-12.

Willamette Wins Eight Matches in Rout of Puget Sound
April 12, 2009TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's tennis team closed out the regular season by rolling past the University of Puget Sound, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, April 11. Willamette heads into the NWC Tournament with an overall record of 8-11, including 7-9 in the NWC. The Bearcats tied for fifth place in the NWC standings and will be the #6 seed in the tournament. Puget Sound finished its season at 1-15 overall, 1-15 in the conference.

Palmer Selected NWC Student-Athlete of the Week
April 09, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) of Willamette University has been selected as the Northwest Conference Women's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 5. Palmer helped Willamette go 2-0, as the Bearcats registered an 8-1 win over Pacific Lutheran University and a 9-0 victory over George Fox University.

Linfield Defeats Bearcats, 8-1, in NWC Match
April 07, 2009McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College improved to 16-4 on the season by defeating the visiting Willamette University Bearcats, 8-1, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match on Tuesday, April 7. Although WU lost the overall match, the Bearcats received a win from Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) at #1 singles. She defeated Sallie Katter of Linfield, 5-7, 7-6 (7-3), 10-7 in a super tie-breaker played instead of a third set.

Bearcats and Wildcats Change Women's Tennis Match to Tuesday, April 7
April 06, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and Linfield College have agreed to move their women's tennis match to Tuesday, April 7 in McMinnville, Ore., at 3:30 p.m. (PDT). The teams were originally scheduled to play at Linfield on Friday, April 10, but decided to meet earlier in the week to avoid the potential for inclement weather.

April 04, 2009NEWBERG, ORE. -- The Bearcats won all six singles matches and all three doubles positions on Saturday, April 4, as Willamette University shut out George Fox University, 9-0, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match. WU moved to 7-10 overall and to 6-8 in the NWC. The Bruins dropped to 4-16 overall, 3-13 in the NWC.

March 29, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- Lewis & Clark College won a close match at #3 doubles and claimed victories in three sets at #4 and #5 singles, as the Pioneers gained an edge to defeat Willamette University, 6-3, on Sunday, March 29 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. L&C upped its record to 11-8 overall, 8-6 in the NWC, while the Bearcats fell to 5-10 overall, 4-8 in the conference.

Willamette Defeats Boxers 6-3 in NWC Road Match
March 27, 2009BEAVERTON, ORE. -- Willamette University defeated Pacific University, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference women's tennis match at the Tualatin Hill Tennis Center on Friday, March 27. The win avenged a 7-2 loss to the Boxers in Salem, Ore., on Feb. 27. In the first meeting, the Bearcats competed without #1 singles and #1 doubles player Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) due to injury and illness.

March 14, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- Whitman College won #2 doubles in a tie-breaker to complete a sweep of the doubles matches, as the Missionaries defeated Willamette University, 6-3, in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, March 14 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. Whitman advanced its record to 10-3 overall, including 10-2 in the NWC. Willamette went to 4-8 overall, 3-7 in the NWC.

March 13, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- The Pirates of Whitworth University gained an early lead and momentum by sweeping the doubles matches, on their way to a 9-0 victory over Willamette University to remain atop the NWC standing, Friday, March 13 at the Courthouse Tennis Center. Whitworth took over sole possession of first place in the conference at 9-0, one-half match in front of Linfield College, 8-0.

March 08, 2009SALEM, ORE. -- Shannon Palmer (Fr., Salem, OR/Sprague HS) achieved a combined record of 4-0 to lead Willamette University to a pair of women's tennis victories on Sunday, March 8 at the Courthouse Tennis Club. In the morning match, WU held off the College of Idaho for a 5-4 win. The Bearcats also won the afternoon match, as they downed George Fox University, 8-1. Palmer won two matches at #1 singles and two matches at #1 doubles during the day.

The three-day tournament concluded on Monday, Sept. 29, with the semifinals and finals on both sides of the singles and doubles brackets.

Willamette is hosting the regional at the WU Tennis Courts and the Salem Swim and Tennis Club. Action resumes on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. (PDT), with the championship finals in singles and doubles set for Monday.
