  • Five Bearcats Chosen Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference

    SALEM, ORE. -- Five members of the Willamette University baseball team have been selected Honorable Mention All-Northwest Conference for the 2007 season in voting by the conferenceâ??s head coaches. Willametteâ??s All-NWC players are senior right fielder Kelly Gilmore (Keizer, OR/McNary HS), senior shortstop Matt Rasmussen (Sandy, UT/Bingham HS), sophomore right-handed pitcher Jarrid Summers (Boise, ID/Boise HS), senior first baseman Grant Yamaguchi (Aiea, HI/Mid Pacific Institute) and junior left fielder Colin Young (Portland, OR/Lincoln HS).
  • Eriksen and Gilmore Homer, as Bearcats End Season with 8-7 Victory over Pioneers

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette University seniors Ty Eriksen (LF/1B, Vancouver, WA/La Salle HS) and Kelly Gilmore (RF, Keizer, OR/McNary HS) each blasted a two-run homer, as the Bearcats defeated Lewis and Clark College, 8-7, in the final game of the season for both teams on Thursday, April 26 at Helser Field on the campus of Linfield College. Lewis and Clark opened the evening by winning a previously suspended Northwest Conference game, 7-5.
  • Three-Run Homer with Two Outs in Ninth Inning Gives Corban 8-7 Win over Bearcats

    SALEM, ORE. -- Brett Timmerman of Corban College hit a three-run homer, his first of the season, with two outs in the top of the ninth inning to lead the Warriors to an 8-7 victory over Willamette University on Tuesday, April 24 at John Lewis Field. Willamette led 7-5 prior to Timmerman's homer, which cleared the right field fence to give Corban the lead. The Bearcats fell to 17-20 with the loss, while Corban improved to 12-28-1.
  • Sundlee Tosses Complete Game in Willamette's 5-2 Win over Pacific

    SALEM, ORE. -- Junior right-handed pitcher Tye Sundlee (Yakima, WA/West Valley HS) struck out nine batters in a complete-game performance, Matt Rasmussen (Sr., SS, Sandy, UT/Bingham HS) drove in three runs and Colin Young (Jr., LF, Portland, OR/Lincoln HS) belted a two-run homer in the third inning, as Willamette University defeated Pacific University on Monday, April 23. The Northwest Conference win at John Lewis Field improved the Bearcats to 17-19 overall, 9-14 in the NWC. Pacific fell to 12-24 overall, including 5-16 in the NWC.
  • Gilmore Hits Three Home Runs, as Bearcats Split Doubleheader with Pacific

    SALEM, ORE. -- Colin Young (Jr., LF, Portland, OR/Lincoln HS) belted a three-run homer in the fourth inning and Kelly Gilmore (Sr., RF, Keizer, OR/McNary HS) smacked a solo homer -- his third of the afternoon -- in the sixth inning, as Willamette University rallied for a 9-7 victory over Pacific University in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday, April 22. In the opener, Pacific completed its own rally by scoring four runs in the top of the ninth inning for a 12-11 victory.
  • Willamette versus Pacific Baseball Rained Out on Saturday

    SALEM, ORE. -- The baseball doubleheader between Willamette University and Pacific University, scheduled for Saturday, April 21 at John Lewis Field, has been rained out. The Bearcats and the Boxers will play a doubleheader on Sunday, April 22, starting at 12 p.m. (PDT) and will close out their Northwest Conference series with a single game on Monday, April 23 at 4:30 p.m. (PDT). All three games will be played at John Lewis Field.
  • Baseball Announces Schedule Changes

    SALEM, ORE. -- Senior right fielder Kelly Gilmore (Keizer, OR/McNary HS) hit a two-RBI double and scored twice, while senior center fielder Sean Anderson (Klamath Fall, OR/Klamath Union HS) hit a two-run double and scored once, leading Willamette University to an 8-5 victory over visiting Corban College at John Lewis Field on Tuesday, April 17. The Bearcats upped their record to 15-18 on the season, including 3-0 in the Salem Series. Corban dropped to 10-26-1.
  • Willamette Rallies from 7-1 Deficit to Defeat Linfield, 9-8

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Willamette University rallied from a 7-1 deficit after five innings to tie the game at 7-7 with six runs in the top of the seventh, then overcame a one-run deficit in the ninth, to defeat Linfield College, 9-8, in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday, April 15. Linfield took an 8-7 lead in the bottom of the eighth, before the Bearcats scored the tying and winning runs in their final at bat.
  • Linfield Sweeps Bearcats, 9-0 and 6-3

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield starting pitcher Brian Clark threw a complete-game four-hitter in the opener and the Wildcats built a 5-0 lead in the first six innings of the second game for a doubleheader sweep of visiting Willamette University on Saturday, April 14 at Roy Helser Field. Linfield improved to 16-13 overall and to 11-6 in the Northwest Conference. The Bearcats dropped to 13-18 on the season, 6-13 in the NWC.
  • Western Oregon Defeats Bearcats, 13-3

    KEIZER, ORE. -- Western Oregon University built a 6-0 lead in the first three innings and went on to defeat Willamette University, 13-3, in a non-conference baseball game on Tuesday, April 10 at Volcanoes Stadium. The Wolves' starting pitcher, Griffin Webb, allowed just one hit in the first four innings, then gave way to five relievers who limited the Bearcats to six more hits the rest of the way. Western Oregon, from NCAA Division II, moved to 16-15 on the season, while Willamette,which competes in NCAA Division III, fell to 13-16.
  • PLU Downs Bearcats, 4-1, in NWC Baseball

    SALEM, ORE. -- Brett Brunner and Dylan Stanford combined to hold Willamette University to one run and five hits, as visiting Pacific Lutheran University won a Northwest Conference baseball game, 4-1, on Saturday, April 7 at John Lewis Field. PLU, which leads the NWC standings, is now 24-6 overall and 12-2 in the NWC. Willamette drops to 13-15 overall, 6-11 in NWC action.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Joe DiPietro pitched a complete game shutout, and Jordan Post and Justin Whitehall homered, as visiting Pacific Lutheran University defeated Willamette University 7-0 in the first game of a Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader at John Lewis Field on Friday, April 6. The Lutes also won the second game, 14-6. PLU upped its record to 23-6 overall and 12-2 in the NWC, while Willamette fell to 13-14 overall, 6-10 in NWC action.
  • Bearcats Hold Off Warriors for 5-4 Win in Crosstown Rivalry

    SALEM, ORE. -- Jack McGee (So., SS, Hillsborough, CA/St. Ignatius HS) put Willamette University in the lead for good with a two-RBI double in the fifth inning and Jimmy Meuel (So., RHP, Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto HS) earned a save by facing just four batters to record the final four outs, as the Bearcats defeated crosstown rival Corban College, 5-4, on Tuesday, April 3 at Warrior Field. Willamette moved above .500 at 13-12 with the win. The Bearcats, who have won 10 of their last 13 games, lead the season series with the Warriors, 2-0. Corban dropped to 10-18-1.
  • Willamette Rallies from Early 2-0 Deficit to Claim 8-4 Victory over Puget Sound

    TACOMA, WASH. -- Willamette University scored three runs in the second inning and four runs in the fifth inning, as the Bearcats overcame an early 2-0 deficit to defeat the University of Puget Sound, 8-4, in the third game of their Northwest Conference weekend series. WU evened its overall record at 12-12, while improving to 7-8 in the NWC. Puget Sound fell to 10-13-1 on the season, 9-6 in the NWC.

    (BASEBALL) TACOMA, WASH -- Willamette University won the first game of its three-game Northwest Conference series at the University of Puget Sound, as the Bearcats claimed a 6-3 victory to start a doubleheader on Saturday, March 31. Puget Sound won the second game, 4-1. Willamette and UPS are scheduled to play the third game of the series on Sunday, April 1 at 12 p.m. (PDT).

Whitworth, behind the pitching of Ryan Snell, won the first game, 9-3. Willamette is now 9-11 overall and 3-7 in NWC action, while Whitworth is 7-13 overall, 5-6 in NWC play.

The series has been rescheduled to start on Sunday, March 25, with a doubleheader at 12 p.m. (PDT). Willamette and Whitworth will complete the three-game set on Monday, March 26, with a game at 12 p.m. (PDT). The Bearcats, who have won five of their last six games, are 8-10 on the season, 2-6 in the NWC. Whitworth is 6-12 overall, 4-5 in the NWC.

Willamette, which took two of three games from the Missionaries, improved to 8-10 overall, 2-6 in the NWC. The Bearcats have won five of their last six games. Whitman dropped to 1-14 on the season, 1-8 in the NWC.

    (BASEBALL) WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Willamette University pitchers Clint Moran (Jr., LHP, Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley HS) and Ryan Smith (Jr., RHP, Felton, CA/San Lorenzo Valley HS) combined on a three-hitter, leading the Bearcats to a 6-1 victory over Whitman College in the second game of a doubleheader on Saturday, March 17. Whitman won the first game, 7-6, after rallying from a 6-1 deficit after eight and a half innings. Willamette ended the doubleheader with a 7-10 overall record, including 1-6 in the Northwest Conference. The Missionaries, who recorded their first win of the season in the first game, improved to 1-13 overall, 1-7 in the NWC.

The Bearcats won the first game 3-0, as Jimmy Meuel (So., RHP, Palo Alto, CA/Palo Alto HS) and Jarrid Summers (So., RHP, Boise, ID/Boise HS) combined on a seven-hit shutout.

The Bruins completed a sweep of the three-game Northwest Conference series, while improving to 9-0 overall, 3-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 3-9 overall and to 0-5 in the NWC.

    (BASEBALL) SALEM, ORE. -- George Fox University produced one big inning in each game, as the Bruins swept a Northwest Conference doubleheader from Willamette University, 9-1 and 10-4, on Sunday, March 4 at John Lewis Field. The Bruins, who tallied six runs in the fourth inning of the opener and achieved five runs in the eighth inning of the second game, improved to 8-0 on the season, 2-0 in the NWC. Willamette led 1-0 after three innings in the first game and held a 4-3 lead after six innings in the nightcap, but fell to 3-8 overall, 0-4 in the NWC.

All three games are scheduled for nine innings.

    (BASEBALL) SALEM, ORE. -- The baseball doubleheader between Willamette University and George Fox University scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 3 has been canceled. The teams will attempt to play on Sunday, Mar. 4 (one or two games) and Monday, Mar. 5 (the remaining one or two games in the three-game series). The site of the games is still Willamette's John Lewis field, but the games may be moved if necessary.

    (GENERAL) SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University's baseball and softball games on Sunday, Feb. 25 have been canceled. The baseball team, which split a doubleheader at Cal State-East Bay on Saturday, Feb. 24, was scheduled to play a single game at East Bay on Sunday, but the game was canceled due to weather and will not be made up. In Saturday's games, Willamette won the opener, 13-4, behind the strong pitching of Tye Sundlee, and CSU-East Bay won the second game, 8-1.
  • CSU-East Bay Defeats Willamette in Third Game of Series, 9-1

    (BASEBALL) HAYWARD, CALIF. -- Early on the afternoon of Sunday, Feb. 25, the Willamette University baseball team was about to start the long bus trip from California back to Salem, Ore., after the final game in the Bearcats' three-game series at California State University-East Bay was canceled. The bus stayed in Hayward, Calif., a bit longer, however, as CSU-East Bay determined its baseball field was playable, allowing the teams to complete the weekend series after all.
