Baumgartner Chosen First Team Capitol One Academic All-DistrictMay 24, 2011SALEM, ORE. -- Michael Baumgartner (So., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) from the Willamette University men's tennis team has been named First Team Capitol One Academic All-District VIII on the college division men's at-large team, as selected by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Baumgartner was one of just 11 student-athletes from a variety of sports who were named to the Academic All-District Team.

Ferguson Wins First Round Singles Match at Ojai Valley TournamentApril 29, 2011OJAI, CALIF. -- Willamette University tennis player Cody Ferguson (Jr., North Bend, OR/North Bend HS/Western Oregon Univ.) opened the Ojai Valley Tournament with a singles victory over Ben Inchalik of California Lutheran University on Friday, April 29. Ferguson won the match in straight sets, taking the first set in a tie-breaker 7-6 (7-3), before prevailing in the second set, 6-1.

Baumgartner and Wong Repeat as First Team All-NWC SelectionsApril 18, 2011SALEM, ORE. -- Four members of the Willamette University men's tennis team who helped the Bearcats achieve a 13-6 record this spring, including 11-1 in the Northwest Conference, have received 2011 All-NWC honors for their efforts, as determined by the NWC head coaches. The four Willamette athletes competed at the top four singles positions and also formed the Bearcats' top two doubles teams.

Bearcats Will Battle Pirates in Semifinals of NWC TournamentApril 15, 2011SALEM, ORE. -- Hoping to continue the success it experienced during the regular season, the Willamette University men's tennis team will compete at the Northwest Conference Tournament this weekend (April 16-17) in Walla Walla, Wash. Willamette, seeded #2 with a 12-5 overall record and an 11-1 record in the NWC, will open the tournament against Whitworth University, seeded #3 with an 11-9 overall record, 8-4 in the NWC.

The Bearcats, who have clinched an NWC Tournament berth, advanced their record to 12-5 on the season, 11-1 in the NWC. George Fox finished its season at 6-10 overall, 5-7 in the NWC.

Baumgartner Wins #1 Singles to Send Willamette Past Pacific, 5-4April 01, 2011SALEM, ORE. -- Michael Baumgartner (So., Albany, OR/West Albany HS) of Willamette University defeated Troy Zuroske of Pacific University in two tie-breakers, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3), to send the Bearcats to a 5-4 victory over Pacific University on Friday, April 1. Most of the competition was played at the WU Tennis Courts on the Willamette campus, but darkness forced Baumgartner and Zuroske to finish the final match at the Courthouse Tennis Club.

Baumgartner Nets NWC Student-Athlete of the Week HonorMarch 29, 2011SALEM, ORE. -- Michael Baumgartner (Albany, OR/West Albany HS), a sophomore on the Willamette University men's tennis team, has been chosen Co-Northwest Conference Men's Tennis Student-Athlete of the Week for his efforts in matches played March 21-27. He shared the weekly honor with Taylor Dickey from Pacific Lutheran University.

Willamette Men's Tennis Defeats Lewis & Clark, 8-1March 26, 2011PORTLAND, ORE. -- Willamette University, ranked #11 in the West Region of NCAA Division III, improved to 7-1 in the Northwest Conference by defeating Lewis & Clark College, 8-1, on Saturday, March 26 at the LC Tennis Dome. The Bearcats moved to 8-5 on the season. Lewis & Clark dropped to 0-8 in the NWC and to 0-12 overall.

Trinity College (Conn.), ranked #14 in the nation, also downed Willamette on Wednesday, 5-0.

In the individual rankings, Cody Ferguson (Jr., North Bend, OR/Western Oregon Univ.) is ranked 15th and Josh Wong (So., Hilo, HI/Hilo HS) is ranked 29th. Natalia Agarycheva (Sr., Vancouver, WA/Univ. of Northern Colo.) is listed 9th in the women's rankings.
