The Bearcats won the second game of the day, 6-2, to complete the four-game weekend sweep over the Pirates.

Willamette Takes Two From WhitworthApril 24, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University softball team defeated the visiting Whitworth University Pirates, 11-10 and 4-1 in a pair of Northwest Conference games on Saturday, April 24. Willamette moved its season record to 25-11 overall, while improving to 17-7 in the NWC. Whitworth fell to 18-16 overall and to 12-14 in the NWC.

Linfield won the second game, 8-0 in five innings. The games paired two nationally ranked teams, as Linfield is ranked #18 and Willamette is #25 in the latest NCAA Division III Poll.

WU earned the win on the run rule in five innings. The second game of the doubleheader was postponed due to rain and will be finished at a date to be determined later. WU was leading 3-1 in the top of the second inning when the game was postponed.

The Bearcats are 1-0 in the silver bracket play. With the win, WU is now 3-1 at the Leadoff Classic after playing four opponents that qualified for the regionals in last year's NCAA DIII National Championship.

UT-Tyler remained undefeated at 9-0, 3-0 in the tournament, while Willamette moved to 9-2 overall, 2-1 in the tournament.
