  • Five Bearcats Earn All-NWC Women's Soccer Recognition

    SALEM, ORE. -- In just her sophomore season, Ashland Bernard (F, Kirkland, WA/Juanita HS) scored five goals and dished out three assists on her way to being named Second Team All-NWC in 2012. Along with Bernard, four other members of the Willamette University women's soccer team received All-Northwest Conference honors.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University built a 2-0 lead with a pair of quick goals, but Pacific University answered with two quick goals of its own, as the teams combined for four goals in 10 minutes during the second half, on their way to a 2-2 tie in two overtimes on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Sparks Field.
  • Lutes Defeat Bearcats, 2-0, in Northwest Conference Game

    TACOMA, WASH. -- Pacific Lutheran University scored one goal in each half, as the Lutes defeated Willamette University, 2-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game. PLU improved its record to 5-4-7 on the season, including 3-5-7 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 5-13-1 overall, 3-11-1 in the conference.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Whitman College scored the game's only goal in the second half, as the Missionaries defeated Willamette University, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday, Oct. 28 at Sparks Field. The Missionaries improved to 5-11-3 overall, 4-8-3 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette dropped to 5-12-1 overall, 3-10-1 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University battled Northwest Conference leaders Whitworth University to a 1-1 tie through more than 89 minutes, but a controversial penalty kick with just 13 seconds left sent the visiting Pirates to a narrow 2-1 win at Sparks Field on Saturday.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The University of Puget Sound defeated Willamette University, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game at Peyton Field on Saturday, October 20. The Loggers improved to 9-3-1 on the season, including 8-1-1 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 5-10-1 overall, 3-8-1 in the NWC.

Willamette University was unable to take Saturday's success against George Fox University and turn it into success against Northwest Conference rival Linfield College on Sunday, as the Wildcats held the Bearcats scoreless en route to a 3-0 victory on Sunday, Oct. 14. The Bearcats began the weekend with a 2-0 win over George Fox.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University achieved a huge advantage in total shots, but Pacific Lutheran University rallied from a 2-1 deficit to defeat the Bearcats 3-2 in two overtimes on Sunday, Oct. 7. Blake Warner scored both the tying goal and the winning goal for the Lutes.

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- McKenna Davidson of Pacific University scored a goal with 1:02 left in the first overtime period to send the Boxers to a 2-1 victory over visiting Willamette University in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game on Saturday, Oct. 6. Davidson scored from about six yards out after receiving a short pass after a corner kick.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University defeated George Fox University, 1-0, in women's soccer on Sunday, Sept. 30, as the Bearcats limited the Bruins to three total shots and no shots on goal. WU freshman Veronica Ewers (MF/F, Moscow, ID/Moscow HS) scored the game's only goal at 59:07.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University goalkeeper Nicole Price (Jr., Auburn, WA/Thomas Jefferson HS) stopped a penalty kick and a follow shot by Emily Fellows (Jr., F, Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) of Linfield College in the first half, and finished the game with 12 saves overall, helping the Bearcats earn a 0-0 tie against the Wildcats in two overtimes.

    SALEM, ORE. -- University of Puget Sound received two goals from Robin Vieira in the final 19 minutes to extend a slim 1-0 lead into a 3-0 victory over Willamette University in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game on Sunday, Sept. 23 at Sparks Field. UPS improved to 4-2-1 overall, 3-0-1 in the NWC, while Willamette dropped to 3-5 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Whitman College received a goal from Jaclyn Rudd on a restart at 66:32, as the Missionaries broke a scoreless tie on their way to a 1-0 win over visiting Willamette University on Saturday, Sept. 15. With the victory, Whitman improved to 2-4 overall, 1-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 3-3, including 1-1 in the NWC.

    PORTLAND, ORE. -- Willamette University lost a 3-1 lead in the last five minutes of regulation, but a breakaway goal from Veronica Ewers (Fr., MF/F, Moscow, ID/Moscow HS) nearly 10 minutes into overtime snatched the visiting Bearcats a 4-3 victory over upstart Lewis & Clark College on Wednesday evening.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Concordia University (Ore.), ranked #2 in the nation in the NAIA, scored once in the first half and twice in the second half to defeat Willamette University, 3-0, on Sunday, Sept. 9 at Sparks Field. The Cavaliers received two goals from Alex Blalock and one goal from Hannah Kimsey to remain undefeated at 6-0. Willamette dropped to 2-2.

    SPRINGFIELD, ORE. -- Three Bearcats scored one goal apiece to lead the Willamette University women's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over Northwest Christian University in a non-conference game on Tuesday, Sept. 4. Willamette evened its record at 1-1 for the season, while Northwest Christian fell to 1-1.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Corban University women's soccer team built a 3-1 lead against Willamette University on Friday, Aug. 31, but the Bearcats pulled within 3-2 when Andi Rowan (Sr., MF, Boise, ID/Timberline HS) converted a penalty kick at 62:05. With the Bearcats pressing to tie the score, Corban added an insurance goal by Audrey Sullivan with 5:12 left to claim a 4-2 win.
  • Bearcats Begin Women's Soccer Season with Talented Freshman Class

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team ended the 2011 season with a 5-2 record in its final seven games, including a 2-1 victory over the University of Puget Sound on a goal in the final minute. Willamette's solid finish gives the Bearcats momentum as they prepare to begin their 2012 schedule against crosstown rival Corban University on Friday, Aug. 31.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team is tied for third in the 2012 Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Preseason Poll, in voting by the NWC head coaches. Willamette went 11-8-1 overall last season, including a third place finish in the NWC at 10-5-1 (31 points).
