    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team outshot George Fox University, 36-5, but it appeared the game would end in a scoreless tie, until Jill Phillips (So., MF, Fairbanks, AK/West Valley HS) scored on the game's final shot with three seconds left in the second overtime, sending the Bearcats to a 1-0 win over the Bruins on Sunday, Oct. 20.

    PORTLAND, ORE. -- Emma Sanders (Fr., MF, Kennewick, WA/Southridge HS) scored a goal late in the first half, and the Willamette University defense did the rest, as the Bearcats shut out Lewis & Clark College, 1-0, on Wednesday, Oct. 16. The victory provided the Bearcats with their first Northwest Conference win of the season.
  • Bearcats and Lutes Tie in Women's Soccer, 0-0 in Two Overtimes

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team tied Pacific Lutheran University 0-0 in two overtimes on Sunday, Oct. 13, as the Bearcats earned their first point in the Northwest Conference standings this season. The Bearcats moved their record to 2-9-1 overall, including 0-7-1 in the NWC. Pacific Lutheran went to 5-3-4 on the season, 3-1-4 in the NWC. WU goalkeeper Emily Sewall (Fr., Petaluma, CA/Casa Grande HS) achieved four saves for the Bearcats and registered a shutout in her first-ever start. She played all 110 minutes. Defender Brenna McGown (Jr., D, Boise, ID/Boise HS) helped out by clearing the ball off the goal line on a shot in the first half. For Pacific Lutheran, Marisa Gonzalez played the first half in goal, while Takara Mitsui was in goal for the second half and both overtimes. Mitsui earned three saves.

The Wildcats' top player, junior forward Emily Fellows, led the way with one goal and one assist.

GFU improved to 3-5-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette ended the day at 2-7-0, including 0-5-0 in the NWC on five one-goal defeats.

UC-Santa Cruz upped its record to 4-1-1 on the season. Willamette fell to 2-2 overall.
