  • Stalker and Bearcats Lead NCAA Division III in Homers Per Game

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University first baseman Kyle Stalker (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) ranked first nationally in NCAA Division III in home runs per game during the 2008 season, according to final statistics release by the NCAA. Stalker pounded out 22 home runs in 39 games for 0.56 homers per contest.

    SALEM, ORE. -- After leading the nation in home runs per game and helping Willamette University rank first in team home runs per game, junior first baseman Kyle Stalker (Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) has been chosen Third Team All-America for NCAA Division III, as selected by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Stalker set school records with 22 home runs and 63 runs batted in this season.

Stalker and teammates Sean Anderson (Sr., CF, Klamath Falls, OR/Klamath Union HS) and Doug Bloom (Fr., SS, Salem, OR/South Salem HS) were selected First Team All-Northwest Conference.

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Senior pitcher Tye Sundlee (Yakima, WA/West Valley HS) tossed a complete-game four-hitter and Kyle Stalker (Jr., 1B, Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) belted a two-run homer -- his 22nd of the season -- as Willamette University downed Pacific University, 5-2, in the first game of a doubleheader, Sunday, April 27 at Chuck Bafaro Stadium. Pacific rallied from a 3-0 deficit in the second game by scoring nine runs in the fourth inning and five runs in the sixth to take a 14-4 win.
  • Moran Throws Complete Game as Bearcats Pound Boxers, 12-2

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Senior left-handed pitcher Clint Moran (Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley HS) threw a complete game and the Willamette University offense collected 13 hits, as the Bearcats defeated Pacific University, 12-2, in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, April 26 at Chuck Bafaro Stadium. Willamette evened its overall record at 19-19, while moving above the .500 mark in conference play at 15-14 with two games remaining. Pacific fell to 19-19 overall, 16-14 in the NWC.
  • Bearcats Cancel First Game at Pacific

    SALEM, ORE. -- Due to a scheduling oversight that exceeded by one game the NCAA Division III baseball 40-game limit, Willamette University is canceling the first game of its Northwest Conference series at Pacific University this coming weekend under instructions from the NWC Commissionerâ??s Office. As per NCAA rules, the cancellation will be treated as a forfeit win for Pacific and will be listed as a no contest for Willamette.
  • Baseball Games Moved to McMinnville due to Weather

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University and Linfield College have moved their games on Sunday, April 20 from John Lewis Field in Salem, Ore., to Roy Helser Field to McMinnville, Ore., due to weather conditions. The teams will complete the suspended game from Saturday starting at 12 p.m. (PDT) before starting the regularly scheduled doubleheader.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College leads the Northwest Conference in pitching by a large margin and the Wildcats lived up to their stats on Sunday, April 20, holding Willamette scoreless in the final four innings of a suspended game, then allowing a total of three runs in a pair of seven-inning games. The Wildcats were victorious in the suspended game, 6-5, and registered wins of 9-1 and 19-2 in the scheduled doubleheader.
  • Linfield Defeats Bearcats, 13-7, in First Game of NWC Series

    SALEM, ORE. -- Linfield College scored six runs in the top of the eighth inning to extend a 6-2 lead and the Wildcats went on to defeat Willamette University, 13-7, in the first game of a four-game Northwest Conference series, Saturday, April 19 at John Lewis Field. Linfield improved to 26-7 overall, 21-4 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 18-16 on the season, 14-11 in the conference.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University center fielder Sean Anderson (Sr., Klamath Falls, OR/Klamath Union HS) has been selected as the NWC Baseball Player of the Week for the week ending April 13, 2008. Anderson batted .550 (11 for 20) as the Bearcats won three out of four games during their Northwest Conference series at the University of Puget Sound.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University offense was working in top form on Sunday, April 13, as the Bearcats swept a Northwest Conference baseball doubleheader from the University of Puget Sound. Willamette won the first game 8-5 and pulled away from the Loggers for a 17-4 win in the second game.

The Loggers won a slugfest in the second game, 14-13, as the teams split the doubleheader.

The wins moved Willamette's overall record to 13-14, while improving the Bearcats to 9-9 in the NWC. Whitman fell to 2-24 overall, 0-18 in the conference.

    KENNEWICK, WASH. -- Willamette University and Whitworth University had to travel 145 miles from Spokane, Wash., to Kennewick, Wash., before their Northwest Conference baseball series started a day later than expected. Even so, the trip paid off for both teams as they split a doubleheader on Sunday, March 30 at La Pierre Field. The Bearcats won the first game, 9-4. Whitworth took the second game, 6-5.
  • Willamette's Doubleheader at Whitworth is Snowed Out

    SPOKANE, WASH. -- Willamette University's baseball doubleheader at Whitworth University on Saturday, March 29 has been canceled due to overnight snow in eastern Washington. The doubleheader, which was slated to begin a four-game Northwest Conference series, will be played on Sunday, March 30. If snow continues to fall in Spokane, Wash., the doubleheader may be moved to Lewiston, Idaho. A decision on the location and start time for the doubleheader will be made late Saturday or early Sunday.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Kyle Stalker (Jr., 1B, Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) belted two homers in the first game to set a Willamette University record with 14 this season, and Max Stepan (Fr., C, Pueblo, CO/Pueblo County HS) smacked two homers in the second game, but it wasn't enough as Pacific Lutheran University swept a doubleheader from the Bearcats, 8-5 and 12-6, at John Lewis Field on Saturday, March 22. PLU improved to 11-8-2, 9-7 in the Northwest Conference, while Willamette dropped to 10-11, 6-6 in the NWC.

Starting pitcher Clint Moran (Sr., LHP, Mission Viejo, CA/Capistrano Valley HS) threw into the eighth inning to earn the win. In the second game, PLU starter Robert Bleecker tossed a complete game with nine strikeouts and one walk, as the Lutes claimed a 6-2 win.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- Jarrid Summers (Jr., RHP, Boise, ID/Boise HS) threw a complete game six-hitter and Willamette University overcame an early 4-0 deficit, as the Bearcats defeated George Fox University, 9-6, in the second game of a doubleheader on Sunday, March 16 at Morse Field. George Fox won the first game, 8-0, behind a six-hitter from pitcher Nick Hedgecock.

George Fox scored a run in the bottom of the ninth inning to win the first game, 6-5.

CSU-East Bay upped its overall record to 11-4. Willamette fell to 6-6 on the season.

Stalker blasted seven home runs and hit .467 during the week, including .667 (6 of 9) in NWC games. He helped Willamette go 4-1 during the week, 3-1 in a four-game series against NWC opponent Lewis & Clark College.

Willamette ended the day at 6-4 overall, 3-1 in the Northwest Conference. Lewis & Clark went to 3-5 overall, 1-3 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Kyle Stalker (Jr., 1B, Bellevue, WA/Sammamish HS) pounded out three home runs, including a grand slam, to lead Willamette University to a 15-13 victory over Lewis & Clark College on Saturday, March 1 in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams. Willamette led in the second game, 4-3 after five and half innings, when play was suspended due to darkness. The teams will resume the game at 11 a.m. (PST) on Sunday, March 2, prior to the doubleheader previously scheduled.

Lee (Fr., LF, Lafayette, CA/Acalanes HS) pounded out four hits apiece, leading Willamette University to an 18-9 victory over Hanover College (Ind.) on Monday, Feb. 25 at Sanford Memorial Stadium. The Bearcats evened their overall record at 3-3 (2-1 in Florida), while Hanover dropped to 0-3 on the season.
  • Willamette Rallies with Three Runs in Ninth, Holds Off St. Vincent, 5-4

    SANFORD, FLA. -- Willamette University scored three runs in the top of the ninth inning to overcome a 3-2 deficit, then held off St. Vincent College in the bottom of the inning, as the WU Bearcats defeated the SVC Bearcats, 5-4, at Sanford Memorial Stadium on Sunday, Feb. 24. For Willamette, now 2-3 on the season, it was the fourth game decided by one run or with the winning run scored in the ninth inning or an extra inning. St. Vincent, playing its season opener, fell to 0-1.
