  • Pacific's McDonough Scores Twice, as Boxers Hold Off Bearcats, 3-1

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Matt McDonough gave Pacific University an early lead just 27 seconds into the Boxersâ?? game with Willamette University on Saturday, Nov. 4. His goal, coupled with a score by Sean Healy at 17:36, gave Pacific an early 2-0 advantage. Later, when Willamette pulled within 2-1, McDonough provided an insurance goal at 75:32, as the Boxers defeated the Bearcats, 3-1, in a Northwest Conference game. Pacific upped its season record to 10-6-1, 7-6-1 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 1-17-1 overall, 0-13-1 in the NWC, while concluding its season schedule.
  • Pacific Lutheran Scores Twice in Final 15 Minutes of First Half in 2-0 Win over Willamette

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University played a highly-competitive first 30 minutes against Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Nov. 3, but the Lutes scored goals at 30:51 and 36:24 to take control of the game. Neither team scored in the second half, as PLU defeated the Bearcats, 2-0, in a Northwest Conference game at Sparks Field. The Lutes improved to 12-5-1 overall, including 9-3-1 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-16-1 overall, 0-12-1 in the NWC.
  • Linfield Scores Twice in First 13 Minutes in 3-0 Win over Bearcats

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. Linfield College scored twice in the first 13 minutes, then added a score following a rebound with just over 10 minutes remaining in the game, to defeat visiting Willamette University, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 28. Linfield received goals from Mike Grabast, Nick Jauregui and Chris Paradis.
  • Buell and Forbes Score for WU, but George Fox Holds Off Bearcats, 3-2

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- George Fox University pulled away from a 1-1 halftime tie with goals at 66:14 and 70:20, then held on to defeat visiting Willamette University, 3-2, in a Northwest Conference game on Tuesday, Oct. 24. Willamette pulled within a single goal when Nick Forbes (So., F, Carbondale, CO/CRMS) scored at 83:05, then had a chance to force overtime with 30 seconds left, but a header by Casey Dineen (Fr., MF, Portland, OR/Jesuit HS) went wide left.
  • Bearcats Lose to 20th-Ranked Puget Sound, 3-0

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University defense held the University of Puget Sound, ranked 20th in NCAA Division III, scoreless for almost the entire first half, but the Loggers scored two minutes before halftime and four minutes into the second half, on their way to a 3-0 victory over the Bearcats, Oct. 21 in Tacoma, Wash. The Northwest Conference win upped Puget Soundsâ?? overall record to 10-1-2, while the Loggers also improved to 7-1-2 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-13-1 on the season, including 0-9-1 in the NWC.
  • Whitman Rallies from 1-0 Deficit to Defeat Bearcats, 3-1

    SALEM, ORE. -- Senior midfielder Paul Slavik (Portland, OR/Grant HS) scored his second goal in as many games to give Willamette University a 1-0 lead at the 30:31 mark, but Jason Shon of visiting Whitman College scored with 31 seconds left in the first half and with 15:01 remaining in the game, as the Missionaries defeated the Bearcats, 3-1, on Sunday, Oct. 15. The Northwest Conference win at Sparks Field improved Whitman to 4-4-2 overall, 3-4-2 in conference play. Willamette fell to 1-12-1 overall, 0-8-1 in the NWC.
  • Willamette Scores First, but Pirates Rally for 2-1 Win

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University put a goal on the scoreboard first, just over 20 minutes into the opening half, but Whitworth College answered with a goal of its own just over a minute later, then added another goal before halftime, as the Pirates defeated the Bearcats, 2-1, in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 14. Whitworth upped its overall record to 6-34-3, while improving to 5-1-2 in the NWC. Willamette end the game at 1-11-1 overall and 0-7-1 in the NWC.
  • Bearcats Lose to Lutes, 5-0, in Tacoma

    TACOMA, WASH. -- Willamette University gave up two goals in a span of 37 seconds early in the game and the Bearcats were never able to recover, as Pacific Lutheran University defeated WU, 5-0, in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday, Oct. 8. The Bearcats lost for the sixth consecutive game and fell to 1-10-1 overall, 0-6-1 in the NWC. Pacific Lutheran upped its record to 7-4, including 4-2 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. Pacific University scored two goals in the first 10 minutes, on its way to a 3-1 win over Willamette University, in a Northwest Conference match on Saturday, Oct. 7. Pacific improved to 6-2-1 overall, including 3-2-1 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-9-1 overall, 0-5-1 in the NWC.
  • Linfield Breaks Scoreless Tie on Penalty Kick Late in First Half; Wildcats Defeat Willamette, 3-0

Linfield College scored the gameâ??s first goal on a penalty kick with 4:31 left in the first half, then added two goals in the final 18 minutes of the game, as the Wildcats defeated Willamette University, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference menâ??s soccer game on Saturday, Sept. 30 at Sparks Field. The Wildcats moved to 5-2-2 overall, including 2-1-2 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-8-1 on the season and to 0-4-1 in the NWC.
  • George Fox Edges Bearcats, 1-0, on Goal at 29:47

    SALEM, ORE. George Fox University scored on a shot by Erich Hangartner at 29:47 and held Willamette University off the scoreboard, as the Bruins defeated the Bearcats, 1-0, in a Northwest Conference game at Spark Field on Tuesday, Sept. 26. George Fox improved its record to 5-3-1 on the season, including 1-3-0 in the NWC. Willamette, which lost for the third consecutive game, fell to 1-7-1 overall, 0-3-1 in the conference.
  • Puget Sound Remains Undefeated with 5-0 Victory over Bearcats

    SALEM, ORE. The University of Puget Sound claimed a 13-5 edge in total shots and earned six corner kicks to just one for Willamette University, as the Loggers defeated the Bearcats, 5-0, in a Northwest Conference menâ??s soccer game played at Sparks Field on Friday, Sept. 22. Puget Sound, ranked #22 in the NCAA Division III Poll conducted by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA), kept its record unblemished at 5-0 overall and 2-0 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 1-6-1 on the season, 0-2-1 in the NWC.
  • Whitworth Scores Three Goals in Second Half to Claim 4-1 Victory over Bearcats

    SPOKANE, WASH The Willamette University Bearcats scored first and went into halftime with a 1-1 tie, but Whitworth College tallied three goals in a 4:15 span in the second half, as the Pirates claimed a 4-1 victory in Northwest Conference menâ??s soccer action on Sunday, Sept. 17. Whitworth, which outshot Willamette 13-2 in the first half and 13-0 in the second half, improved to 3-2-1 overall and to 2-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-5-1 on the season, 0-1-1 in the NWC.
  • Willamette and Whitman Play to 0-0 Tie in Men's Soccer

    It was the opening day of the Northwest Conference schedule in men's soccer for both visiting Willamette University and homestanding Whitman College on Saturday, Sept. 16. The game lasted 90 regulation minutes, plus two 10-minute overtimes, before the Bearcats and the Missionaries ended in a 0-0 tie.
  • Louvier Scores Hat Trick for Corban in 4-2 Victory over Willamette in Inaugural Capitol Cup

    SALEM, OR -- The Bearcats took a 1-0 lead at 38:54 when Mikey Rodriguez (Jr., F, Beaverton, OR/Southridge HS) knocked the ball into an open net from four yards out, after Corban goalie James DelCastillo saved, but was unable to control, a shot by Forrest Donoho (So., F, Boulder, CO/Fairview HS). Willamette's held the lead for less than five minutes, as Louvier scored the equalizing goal at 43:21, after receiving a pass from Mark Mendenhall.
  • Willamette Earns 1-0 Win over Walla Walla on Early Goal by Monbouquette

    SALEM, OR -- Willamette University scored a goal less than 17 minutes into the game, and the Bearcat defense shut out Walla Walla College the rest of the way, as the Bearcats claimed a 1-0 victory over th Wolves. Willamette improved to 1-3 on the season. Walla Walla fell to 0-2.
  • Bearcats Fall to California Lutheran, 1-0, in Overtime

    SALEM, OR -- California Lutheran University scored the game's only goal at 95:41, as the Knights defeated Willamette University, 1-0 in overtime, Friday, Sept. 8 at Sparks Field. California Lutheran improved to 1-2 overall, while Willamette dropped to 0-3 on the season.
