    SALEM, ORE. -- Jocelyn Riordan scored 16 points to lead the University of Puget Sound to a 70-50 victory over Willamette University at Cone Field House on Saturday, Feb. 21. Puget Sound concluded the regular season with a 17-8 overall record, 11-5 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette finished its season at 4-18, 3-13 in the NWC.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University gave #2-ranked George Fox University a strong battle on Friday, Feb. 20, before falling to the Bruins, 67-55, in a Northwest Conference game at the Wheeler Sports Center. George Fox remained undefeated at 24-0 overall, 15-0 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 4-17 overall, 3-12 in the conference.

L&C improved to 11-12 overall and to 5-9 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 4-16 overall, 3-11 in the NWC.

Pacific improved to 9-13 overall, 8-6 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 4-15 overall, 3-10 in the NWC.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Whitman College surged out to a 43-23 halftime lead on its way to defeating Willamette University, 86-52, in a Northwest Conference women's basketball game on Saturday, Feb. 7. The loss ended Willamette's three-game winning streak that featured conference victories over Linfield College, Pacific Lutheran University and Whitworth University.

The Loggers upped their record to 11-6 overall, 5-3 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-13 on the season, 0-8 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University led 10th ranked George Fox University early in the second half, 26-25, and the Bearcats trailed by just six points, 53-47, with 5:50 remaining, but GFU avoided the upset by defeating WU, 70-55, Friday, Jan. 23 at Cone Field House. The Bruins remained undefeated at 16-0, while improving to 7-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 1-12 on the season, 0-7 in the NWC.

Fillion averaged 17.3 points and 13.0 rebounds in three games for the Bearcats.

Whitman upped its record to 11-2 overall, 3-1 in the NWC, while the Bearcats went to 1-9 on the season, 0-4 in the NWC.

Whitworth upped its record to 7-5 overall, 1-2 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 1-8 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College held off a late run by Willamette University, as the Wildcats downed the Bearcats, 57-50, in a Northwest Conference game at Ted Wilson Gymnasium on Tuesday, Jan. 6. The Bearcats trailed 48-34, with just over nine minutes left, but cut the margin to 51-49 entering the final minutes. Linfield closed the contest with a 6-0 run.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University men's and women's basketball teams will open Northwest Conference play with games at Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Jan. 2. Both games will be webcast live on the Bearcat Sports Network, with Mike Allegre providing the play-by-play.     PORTLAND, ORE. -- Molly Fillion (Sr., G, Silverton, OR/Silverton HS/Linn-Benton CC) of Willamette University led all players with 17 points and 19 rebounds, but Concordia University (Ore.) committed just eight turnovers and limited WU to 26.7% shooting, as the Cavaliers defeated the Bearcats, 88-46, on Monday, Dec. 29. The 'Cats fell to 1-5 on the season. It was Willamette's first action since the death of Head Coach Bruce Henderson on Dec. 8 of an apparent heart-related incident. Concordia improved to 10-1 overall.

He had an impact on so many people with his big smile, his jokes and his willingness to help out others. So it was no surprise that a large group of people attended the memorial celebrate in Henderson's honor on Sunday, Dec. 14 at Cone Field House.

  • Eastern Oregon Limits Second Half Turnovers in 68-48 Win over Willamette

    CALDWELL, IDAHO -- Eastern Oregon University committed 13 turnovers in the first half, but made only five turnovers in the final 20 minutes, allowing the Mountaineers to rally past Willamette University for a 68-48 victory on Saturday, Nov. 29 in the second round of the Lady Yote Classic at the College of Idaho. Eastern Oregon improved to 4-1, while Willamette fell to 1-3.

    CALDWELL, IDAHO -- The College of Idaho built a nine-point halftime lead, then pulled away from Willamette University in the second period, as the Coyotes defeated the Bearcats, 84-53, in the first round of the Lady Yote Classic on Friday, Nov. 28. College of Idaho upped its record to 7-1 on the season, while Willamette dropped to 1-2. The Lady Yotes held a 43-34 advantage at halftime, then limited WU to just 19 points in the second half.

Fillion helped Willamette go 1-1 and was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.

    PUEBLO, COLO. -- The Willamette University women's basketball team put up a quality battle against Colorado State University-Pueblo in the season-opener for the Bearcats on Friday, Nov. 21 at the 2008 Al Kaly Shrine Classic, but the Thunderwolves prevailed, 66-58. CSU-Pueblo evened its record at 1-1, while Willamette started the season at 0-1.
