  • Rowan Receives Second Team All-West Region Honors from ABCA

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior outfielder Mitch Rowan (LF, Cotati, CA/Rancho Cotate HS) has been chosen Second Team All-West Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Rowan led the Bearcats with a .342 batting average, 10 home runs, 34 runs scored and 40 RBIs this spring.

A total of 42 players were chosen for All-West Region honors, evenly split between the First Team, Second Team and Third Team.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University rallied from a 5-2 deficit with three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, but Whitworth University added two runs in the top of the 10th stanza and held off another Willamette rally to defeat the Bearcats, 7-6, in the second game of a Northwest Conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 21. Whitworth opened the doubleheader with an 8-1 win in the first game.

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Pacific University produced 16 hits in the first game and took advantage of six errors by Willamette University in the second game, as the Boxers swept a twi-night doubleheader from the Bearcats, 9-6 and 8-3, on Monday, April 2 at Chuck Bafaro Stadium. Mike Nagamine was 4 of 4 with a solo homer for Pacific in the opener. Willamette allowed five unearned runs in the nightcap.

The Bearcats and the Owls were originally scheduled to play a doubleheader hosted by Oregon Tech, but the games have been moved to Salem.

The Bearcats won the first game, 10-3, and then built a 17-0 lead in the second game before winning 25-16.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The baseball make-up game between Willamette University and Corban University set for Tuesday, March 20 has been canceled. The game was initially scheduled as part of a doubleheader at Corban on Feb. 25, but wet grounds and the weather prevented the teams from playing. Baseball players on both teams were hoping to complete one of the games on Tuesday at Volcanoes Stadium, but rain has forced another cancellation.

Mitch Rowan (Jr., LF, Cotati, CA/Rancho Cotate HS) batted next and smacked a solo homer to right field to score the winning run.

The wins enabled PLU to take the weekend series two games to one after Willamette edged out a 9-8 win on Saturday.
