  • Rogel Chosen Second Team All-West Region

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University senior defender Kelsey Rogel (Tacoma,WA/Bellarmine Prep) has been named Second Team All-West Region and WU senior forward Lauren Miller (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) has been selected for Third Team All-West Region honors, in voting by members of the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA). Overall, the NSCAA recognized a total of 33 athletes with All-West Region honors.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Senior defender Kelsey Rogel (Tacoma,WA/Bellarmine Prep) has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference as selected by the NWC head women's soccer coaches. Rogel has received All-NWC honors all four seasons with the Bearcats, after previously achieving First Team recognition in 2006 and Second Team All-NWC honors in 2005 and 2007.
  • Bearcats Fall to Loggers, 4-0, in Final Game of Season

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The University of Puget Sound scored four goals in the first 19 minutes on its way to a 4-0 victory over Willamette University, Saturday, Nov. 8 at Peyton Field. Puget Sound, ranked #6 in the NCAA Division III Poll, improved to 18-1 on the season and finished its NWC schedule with a perfect 16-0 record. The Loggers will advance to the NCAA Division III Tournament. Willamette concluded the year at 12-8 overall, 10-6 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- It was senior night at Sparks Field for the Willamette University women's soccer team on Wednesday, Nov. 5, and it was senior Lauren Miller (F, Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) who provided the game's only goal, as the Bearcats defeated nearby rival Linfield College, 1-0. The Bearcats, who moved into second place in the Northwest Conference standings, improved to 12-7 overall and to 10-5 in the NWC. Linfield fell to 5-14 on the season, 3-12 in the NWC.
  • Goal by Moore Sends Willamette Past Pacific, 1-0

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Megan Moore (Fr., MF/D, Tigard, OR/Tigard HS) has been playing increased minutes as a substitute on the Willamette University women's soccer team in recent games. At Pacific University on Sunday, Nov. 2, Moore took advantage of her playing time to score the game's only goal with 6:18 left, as the Bearcats downed the Boxers, 1-0.
  • Pacific Lutheran Defeats Bearcats, 3-1

    SALEM, ORE. -- Pacific Lutheran University scored two goals in just 42 seconds early in the second half to build a 3-0 lead and held off Willamette University for a 3-1 win at Sparks Field on Saturday, Nov. 1. PLU upped its record to 4-9-3 overall, 3-8-2 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 10-7 on the season, 8-5 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University defender Kelsey Rogel (Sr., Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep), whose powerful free kicks have contributed to the Bearcats' attack throughout the season, has been named NWC Women's Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week for her efforts in wins on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26. Rogel earned a total of four assists during the week.
  • Bearcats Trail 2-0, but Rally for 4-2 Win over Pioneers

    PORTLAND, ORE. -- It took the Willamette University Bearcats a little while to adjust to the AstroTurf 12 playing surface at Griswold Stadium in their women's soccer game with Lewis & Clark College on Sunday, Oct. 26. The Pioneers took advantage of WU's early difficulties to build a 2-0 first half lead. The Bearcats adjusted and gradually gained control, tying the game just before halftime and scoring twice in the second half for a 4-2 victory.
  • Bearcats Rally for 2-1 Victory over George Fox

    SALEM, ORE. -- Led by goals from Samantha Post (Sr., D/MF, Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) and Alex Batzer (So., MF/F, Medford, OR/North Medford HS), Willamette University rallied from a 1-0 deficit early in the second half to claim a 2-1 victory over George Fox University on Saturday, Oct. 25 at Sparks Field. With the win, the Bearcats improved to 9-6 overall, 7-4 in the Northwest Conference. The Bruins dropped to 10-6 on the season, 6-6 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Alex Batzer (So., MF, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) has been named Northwest Conference Womenâ??s Soccer Offensive Student-Athlete of the Week after scoring all three of Willametteâ??s goals last weekend. The Bearcats won one game and lost one game in a pair of NWC road matches.

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Alex Batzer (So., MF, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) scored the game's only goal with 1:14 remaining in regulation to send Willamette University to a 1-0 victory over Whitman College in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday, Oct. 19. Batzer's goal, her team-leading fifth tally of the season, prevented the game from going into overtime.
  • Whitworth Scores with 18:17 Left to Stave Off Willamette Rally, 3-2

    SPOKANE, WASH. -- Whitworth University saw its 2-0 halftime deficit disappear, but the Pirates scored a goal with 18:17 left in the game for a 3-2 victory over visiting Willamette University on Saturday, Oct. 18. Both of Willamette's goals were scored by Alex Batzer (So., MF, Medford, OR/North Medford HS), who tied the game with just over 23 minutes remaining.

UPS improved to 9-1 overall, 7-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 7-5 overall, 5-3 in the NWC.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Senior defender Samantha Post (Philomath, OR/Philomath HS) scored twice, leading the Willamette University women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Linfield College on Wednesday, Oct. 8. The road win allowed the Bearcats to improve to 7-4 overall, 5-2 in the Northwest Conference, while Linfield dropped to 3-8 on the season, 1-6 in the NWC.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- After playing in seven games decided by 1-0 scores in the first nine games this season, the Willamette University women's soccer team broke out of its scoring difficulties in a big way on Sunday, Oct. 5, as the Bearcats defeated Pacific Lutheran University, 4-1, in a Northwest Conference game. Willamette improved to 6-4 overall, 4-2 in the NWC, while PLU dropped to 1-6-2 overall, 0-5-1 in the conference.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Senior defender Kelsey Rogel came forward on a corner kick and scored from yards out 25:51 into the game for the only goal as Willamette University defeated Pacific University, 1-0, at Sparks Field on Saturday, Oct. 4. The Bearcats, who outshot Pacific, 18-1, improved to 5-4 on the season, 3-2 in the Northwest Conference. Pacific fell to 4-4 overall, 3-1 in the NWC.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- Willamette University outshot George Fox University, 21-13, in Northwest Conference action on Saturday, Sept. 27, but the Bearcats were unable to score, while the Bruins used a goal by Kirsten Cardwell to win the game, 1-0. GFU improved to 5-2 overall, 1-2 in the NWC. Willamette dropped to 4-4 on the season, 2-2 in the conference.

Whitman improved to 3-1 overall, 1-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 2-3 on the season, 0-1 in the NWC.

    SANTA CRUZ, CALIF. -- Kimber Mattox (Fr., MF, Bend, OR/Cornell University) scored with 8:21 remaining in regulation to send Willamette University to a 1-0 victory over UC-Santa Cruz on Monday, Sept. 15. The Bearcats improved to 2-2 on the season, while UCSC dropped to 3-2-1. Willamette goalkeeper Kelli Gano (So., Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) registered three saves to record the shutout.

    SANTA CRUZ, CALIF. -- Willamette University and the University of Redlands played a scoreless women's soccer match for 90 minutes on Sunday, Sept. 14 at UC-Santa Cruz, but the Bulldogs scored on a breakaway just 1:30 into overtime to defeat the Bearcats, 1-0. Kelsey Kimmel tallied the game's only goal just over a minute after Willamette took the first shot on goal of overtime.

    HAYWARD, CALIF. -- California State University-East Bay scored twice in the first 22 minutes and the Pioneers went on to defeat visiting Willamette University, 3-1, on Friday, Sept. 12. CSU-East Bay improved to 4-2 on the season, while Willamette dropped to 1-1. It was WU's first match since a 1-0 victory over Oregon Institute of Technology on Aug. 29.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Freshman midfielder Stephanie Skelly (Poulsbo, WA/North Kitsap HS) was playing in her first collegiate game when Willamette University took on Oregon Institute of Technology on Friday, Aug. 29 at Sparks Field. Meanwhile, new Willamette Head Coach Hillary Arthur was leading the Bearcats for the first time. It turned out to be a solid start for player and coach, as Skelly provided the game's only goal in a 1-0 victory for the 'Cats.
