Willamette Cross Country Runners Earn All-Academic Honors
February 22, 2011SALEM, ORE. -- Five Willamette University cross country runners have received All-Academic status from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2010 season. Three members of the Willamette men's team and two runners on the Bearcat women's team were chosen for the All-Academic award. -
Redfield, Mattox Earn All-America Honors at NCAA Cross Country Championships
November 20, 2010WAVERLY, IOWA -- Willamette University men's cross country runner Stefan Redfield (Sr., Sisters, OR/Sisters HS) and WU women's cross country runner Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) earned All-America honors at the 2010 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Nov. 20. The 8-kilometer men's race and the 6-kilometer women's race were hosted by Wartburg College. The top 35 runners in each race earned All-America recognition.

Willamette Runners are Set for NCAA Championships in Waverly, Iowa
November 19, 2010WAVERLY, IOWA -- The Willamette University cross country teams are ready for the NCAA Division III Championships, set for Saturday, Nov. 20 at Wartburg College. Willamette will field a complete men's team and will be represented by two runners in the women's race. The men's championship course will cover 8 kilometers, while the women's race will be 6 kilometers in length.

McGuirk Named West Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year
November 17, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University Head Coach Matt McGuirk has been named 2010 NCAA Division III West Region Men's Cross Country Coach of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). McGuirk recently led the Bearcats to the men's team championship at the NCAA West Regional. He will be leading the team into the NCAA Championships this weekend at Wartburg College in Waverly, Iowa.

Willamette Men's Cross Country Returns to #14 National Ranking
November 15, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's cross country team is ranked #14 in NCAA Division III for the second time this season, in rankings released by the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Monday, Nov. 15. The Bearcats moved up 15 places after winning the West Regional title at Bush's Pasture Park on Saturday.

NCAA Selects At-Large Bids to Cross Country Championships
November 14, 2010INDIANAPOLIS, IND. -- When the 2010 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships get underway on Saturday, Nov. 20 in Waverly, Iowa, Willamette University will be competing with a men's team entry, plus two runners from the women's team. The 8-kilometer men's race and the 6-kilometer women's race will be held at Wartburg College, which is hosting the championships.

Bearcat Men Win West Regional Championship in Cross Country
November 13, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's cross country team edged out Claremont-Mudd-Scripps to win the NCAA Division III West Regional championship on Saturday, Nov. 13 at Bush's Pasture Park. Willamette finished with a team score of 63, while CMS registered a team score of 65. Whitworth University took third place with a score of 80.

October 30, 2010TACOMA, WASH. -- Willamette University runners Leo Castillo (Jr., Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS) and Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) have won individual titles at the Northwest Conference Cross Country Championships, held at Fort Steilacoom Park on Saturday, Oct. 30. Castillo won the men's 8-kilometer race and Mattox finished first in the women's 6-kilometer race.

October 28, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University cross country teams will be in Lakewood, Wash., on Saturday, Oct. 30 to compete in the 2010 Northwest Conference Championships. Action at Fort Steilacoom Park is set to get underway at 10 a.m. (PDT) with the men's 8-kilometer race, which will be followed by the women's 6-kilometer race at 11 a.m. University of Puget Sound is hosting the event.

October 16, 2010EUGENE, ORE. -- Leo Castillo (Jr., Parkdale, OR/Hood River Valley HS) placed 24th overall in the men's 8-kilometer race at the Bill Dellinger Invitational. hosted by the University of Oregon on Saturday, Oct. 16. The meet was held at Pre's Trail in Alton Baker Park. Castillo recorded a time of 24:38.62.

Mattox Finishes Second at Mike Hodges Invitational
October 15, 2010OREGON CITY, ORE. -- Kimber Mattox (So., Bend, OR/Bend HS/Cornell Univ.) of Willamette University placed second overall behind unattached runner Christine Babcock in the women's 5-kilometer race at the Mike Hodges Invitational, hosted by Clackamas Community College on Friday, Oct. 15. Babcock won the race in 17:15.18. Mattox registered a time of 17:56.88 as the top collegiate finisher.

October 15, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's cross country team advanced three more positions to #15 in this week's NCAA Division III National Coaches Poll, released by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The Bearcat moved up 14 spots a week ago to take the #18 ranking.

Castillo led Willamette to a fifth place team finish in the men's Cardinal standings, which featured teams from all three NCAA Divisions.

Castillo placed second in the 8-kilometer men's race and helped Willamette take second in the team standings.

Willamette Remains #17 in Men's Cross Country National Rankings
September 16, 2010SALEM, ORE. -- Following a solid performance at the Pier Park Invitational on Sept. 10, the Willamette University men's cross country team retained its #17 ranking in this week's NCAA Division III Men's Cross Country National Coaches' Poll. Willamette also held the #17 position in the Preseason Poll.
