  • Lloyd Fobi Hired as Head Men's Soccer Coach at Willamette

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has hired Lloyd Fobi as the head men's soccer coach for the Bearcats, Director of Athletics Mark Majeski announced today. Fobi will begin his duties as head coach immediately.

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- The statistics for the two teams were nearly even, but Linfield College found a way to produce two goals as the Wildcats defeated Willamette University, 2-0, on Saturday, Nov. 6. Both teams took 14 shots during the game, and Willamette held a slim 10-9 edge in shots on goal. Each squad earned three corner kicks.

The Missionaries scored their first goal with just over four minutes remaining in the first half and added a second goal with 1:16 left in the game.

Willamette moved to 3-8-3 overall, 1-6-2 in the NWC. George Fox went to 0-10-2 on the season, including 0-8-1 in the NWC.

Linfield advanced its season record to 5-5-1, 4-3-0 in the NWC. Willamette moved to 3-7-2 on the season, 1-5-1 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Whitworth University scored in the third minute and didn't score again, but the Pirates fended off Willamette University's comeback efforts in the second half to win a Northwest Conference men's soccer game, 1-0, on Sunday, Oct. 3. With the win, the Pirates improved to 7-2-1 on the season and to 4-1-1 in the NWC. Willamette slipped to 3-6-2 overall, 1-4-1 in the NWC.

Willamette moved to 2-1-1 on the season. Redlands, playing its season opener, ended the night at 1-0-0.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Alfredo Zuniga (Salem, OR/South Salem HS), a junior goalkeeper for Willamette University, has been named Northwest Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Student-Athlete of the Week for his contributions to the Bearcats' 2-0-1 start during the week ending Sept. 5. Zuniga saw action in two of the three games and recorded a win and a tie.

Willamette was fifth in the final NWC standings last season, when the Bearcats went 6-13 overall, 5-9 in the NWC.
