  • Willamette Hires Hillary Arthur as Head Women's Soccer Coach

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has hired Hillary Arthur to be its next head women's soccer coach. Arthur, who guided the women's soccer program at Western Nevada College in the NJCAA the past three seasons, will join the Bearcats for part of their spring practice schedule and will be at Willamette full-time starting this summer.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Junior forward Lauren Miller (Portland, OR/Grant HS / Northwestern State, La.) of Willamette University has been named First Team All-Northwest Conference for the 2007 season, as chosen by the NWC head coaches. Miller led the Bearcats in scoring with 11 goals and two assists for 24 total points during the season.
  • Gano Repeats as NWC Defensive Player of the Week

    SALEM, ORE. -- Freshman goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) of Willamette University has been named Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row, after allowing just one goal in the Bearcats' final two games of the season. Gano also registered a total of 16 saves, while earning a 2-0 record during the week ending Nov. 4.
  • Willamette Defeats Pacific Lutheran, 1-0, on Goal by Noelke

    SALEM, ORE. -- Michelle Noelke (Fr., F, Edmonds, WA/Roosevelt HS) scored her third goal of the season just over 10 minutes into the game, and the Willamette University defense kept Pacific Lutheran University off the scoreboard for the second time this season, as the Bearcats shut out the Lutes, 1-0, at Sparks Field on Saturday, Nov. 3. Kelli Gano (Fr., Portland, OR/Grant HS) recorded her sixth shutout (4-0-2) to finish the year with a 0.89 goals against average.
  • Bearcats Rally in Second Half for 3-1 Win at Pacific

    FOREST GROVE, ORE. -- Willamette University scored three goals in the second half to rally from a 1-0 halftime deficit and defeat Pacific University, 3-1, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game at Lincoln Park Stadium on Friday, Nov. 2. Kelsey Rogel (Jr., F/D, Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep) scored the tying goal just over five minutes into the second half and Alex Batzer (Fr., MF, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) tallied the go-ahead goal with 7:47 left in the game.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University freshman goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) has been chosen Northwest Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in three games during the week ending Sunday, Oct. 28. Gano achieved a 0.33 goals against average and a total of 11 saves in Willamette's three games.
  • WU Scores Twice in First Half, as Bearcats Shut Out Linfield, 2-0

    SALEM, ORE. -- Junior forwards Kelsey Rogel (Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep) and Lauren Miller (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) scored goals just 1:01 apart in the first half, sending Willamette University on its way to a 2-0 win over visiting Linfield College in a Northwest Conference game on Sunday, Oct. 28. The victory at Sparks Field, upped Willamette's record to 6-9-2 overall, 5-7-2 (17 points) in the NWC, as the Bearcats moved past Linfield into fifth place in the conference standings. Linfield fell to 6-9-2 on the season, 5-8-1 (16 points) in the NWC.
  • Willamette Outshoots Chapman, 21-5, but Panthers Win 1-0 in Overtime

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University outshot Chapman University 21-5 in totals shots on Friday, Oct. 26 at Sparks Field, but the visiting Panthers won 1-0 in overtime. The game's only goal was scored by Alicia Fraticelli at 95:26 and was assisted by Stephanie Lambrakis.

    PORTLAND, ORE. -- Willamette University junior forward Lauren Miller (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) scored three goals for a hat trick, leading the Bearcats to a 3-0 Northwest Conference victory over Lewis & Clark College at Griswold Stadium on Tuesday, Oct. 23. Willamette improved to 5-8-2 overall, 4-7-2 in the NWC. Lewis & Clark fell to 2-11-2 overall, 2-10-1 in the NWC.
  • Whitworth Slips Past Willamette, 1-0, on Goal at 83:46

    SPOKANE, WASH. -- Whitworth University edged Willamette University, 1-0, on a goal by Jael Hagerott with just over six minutes remaining, in a Northwest Conference women's soccer game on Sunday, Oct. 21. The Bearcats played exceptional defense against the Pirates, who entered the game with just one loss on the season. Willamette goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Fr., Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) provided seven saves to keep the game scoreless until Hagerott's winning shot.
  • Whitman Shuts Out Bearcats, 3-0, in Walla Walla

    WALLA WALLA, WASH. -- Kristen Berndt of Whitman College scored two goals, including the game's opening goal just 3:24 in the contest, as the Missionaries defeated visiting Willamette University, 3-0, in a Northwest Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 20. Berndt, who now has eight goals on the season, beat a defender, then placed a low shot into the corner of the goal to give Whitman its early lead. Berndt added the game's final goal with nine minutes left.
  • Willamette Battles 4th-Ranked UPS, but Loggers Hold on for 3-2 Win

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University provided a tough battle for the University of Puget Sound, ranked #4 in NCAA Division III (D3Kicks.com), but the Bearcats were unable to record an equalizing goal in the closing minutes, as UPS held on for a 3-2 win at Sparks Field on Saturday, Oct. 13. UPS remained undefeated and improved to 13-0 on the season, including 9-0 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette dropped to 4-6-2 overall, 3-5-2 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University goalkeeper Kelli Gano (Sr., Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) recorded 11 saves, leading the Bearcats to a 0-0 tie in two overtimes against George Fox University, in a Northwest Conference game at Sparks Field on Thursday, Oct. 11. Willamette ended the game with a 4-5-2 overall record, including 3-4-2 in the NWC. George Fox moved to 8-4-1 on the season, 5-3-1 in the NWC.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Lauren Miller (Jr., F, Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) and Kelsey Rogel (Jr., F/D, Tacoma, WA/Bellarmine Prep) each scored a goal, leading Willamette University to a 2-1 victory over Pacific University in a Northwest Conference game at Sparks Field on Sunday, Oct. 7. All of the scoring was in the first half, as goalkeepers Kelli Gano (Fr., Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) of Willamette and Sydney Vincent of Pacific shut down the two offenses during the final 45 minutes.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- The Willamette University women's soccer team shut out Pacific Lutheran University, 1-0, on Saturday, Oct. 6 in Tacoma, Wash. Freshman forward Michelle Noelke, playing near her hometown of Edmonds, Wash. (Roosevelt HS), scored the game's only goal. Lauren Miller (Jr., F, Portland, OR/Grant HS/Northwestern State, La.) received an assist on the play, as the Bearcats broke a scoreless tie early in the second half at 48:59.
  • Linfield Downs Bearcats, 3-0, on Wet and Windy Night

    McMINNVILLE, ORE. -- Linfield College outfought Willamette University in the wind and the rain to defeat the Bearcats, 3-0, on Sunday, Sept. 30 in McMinnville, Ore. The Wildcats scored the game's first goal on a penalty kick midway through the opening half, then added another goal shortly before halftime and the final goal in the 73rd minute. Linfield moved to 4-4-1 on the season, including 3-3 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 2-5-1, 1-41 in the NWC.

Willamette improved its record to 2-4-1 overall, 1-3-1 in the NWC, while Lewis & Clark dropped to 1-6-1 overall, 1-5 in the NWC.

Whitworth remained undefeated at 6-0 and improved to 3-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-4 overall, 0-3 in the NWC.

Kelli Gano (Fr., GK, Portland, OR/Cleveland HS) of Willamette and Courtney Porter of Whitman registered the shutouts.

Puget Sound upped its record to 6-0 overall, including 2-0 in the NWC. Willamette fell to 1-3 overall, 0-2 in the NWC.

    NEWBERG, ORE. -- Amber Stevens scored two goals for George Fox University to lead the Bruins to a 3-1 victory over Willamette University in the Northwest Conference opener for both teams on Thursday, Sept. 13. George Fox improved its overall record to 3-1, while WU fell to 1-2.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University received goals from four different players, as the Bearcats defeated the University of La Verne, 4-0, at Sparks Field on Sunday, Sept. 9. Emily Gross (Jr., MF, Medford, OR/North Medford HS) scored the only goal of the first half at 21:25. WU's goals in the second half were scored by Meghan Anderson (So., F, Eugene, OR/South Eugene HS), Lauren Miller (Jr., F, Portland, OR/Northwestern State, La.) and Beth Tatlock (So., MF, Denver, CO/St. Mary's Academy). The Bearcats improved to 1-1 on the season, while the Leopards dropped to 0-3.
  • UC-Santa Cruz Edges Willamette, 1-0, on Goal at 86:31

    TACOMA, WASH. -- Annick Lamb from the University of California-Santa Cruz dribbled though a group of players and scored at 86:31, sending the Banana Slugs to a 1-0 victory over Willamette University in a women's soccer game hosted by the University of Puget Sound on Tuesday, Sept. 4. UC-Santa Cruz, playing its third game in five days, improved to 2-1. Willamette, playing in its season opener, fell to 0-1.
  • Willamette Chosen Second in NWC Women's Soccer Preseason Poll

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University has been picked to finish second in the Northwest Conference womenâ??s soccer standings, according to the NWC Preseason Poll for 2007. The University of Puget Sound was chosen to win its sixth consecutive NWC title. The Loggers won last yearâ??s title with just one point more than Willamette in the final standings. All nine NWC head coaches voted in this yearâ??s poll, with UPS listed first on seven ballots and Willamette ranked first on two ballots.
