  • Mitchell Competes for Washington Generals against Harlem Globetrotters

    SALEM, ORE. -- Former Willamette University men's basketball player Cameron Mitchell '10 (Post, Portland, OR/Grant HS) is competing for the Washington Generals against the Harlem Globetrotters in a series of games in Mexico. The six-game trip will end on Sunday (Aug 1) with a game at the Domo de la Feria in Leon, located on the Baja Peninsula.

Mitchell, who is playing with the Salem Stampede while completing his Willamette degree, was chosen for the award, along with Mac Hopson of the Portland Showtime.

    SALEM, ORE. -- Willamette University men's basketball senior post Cameron Mitchell (Portland, OR/Grant HS/Univ. of Redlands) has been named All-West Region by two organizations for his outstanding play during the 2009-10 season. He also was a finalist for the prestigious Jostens Trophy given each year to the top NCAA Division III player according to athletic accomplishments, community service and academic success.

Mitchell's efforts led Willamette to a 95-86 victory at Cone Field House over visiting Pacific University.

    SALEM, ORE. -- The Willamette University men's basketball team will conclude the 2009-10 season with a pair of Northwest Conference games this weekend, as the Bearcats take on Pacific Lutheran University on the road and Pacific University at home. WU will begin the weekend by battling PLU in Tacoma, Wash., on Friday, Feb. 19 at 8 p.m. (PST). The Bearcats will close out the season on Saturday, Feb. 20 by hosting Pacific at 8 p.m. at Cone Field House.

    TACOMA, WASH. -- Willamette University built a big first-half lead, but saw the lead reduced to three points with 8:43 left, before the Bearcats closed the game with a 28-9 run to rout Pacific Lutheran University, 80-58, on Friday, Feb. 19 at Olson Auditorium. WU upped its record to 8-16 overall, 5-10 in the NWC, while PLU fell to 8-14 overall, including 6-9 in the NWC. The Lutes have lost six consecutive games.

It is the fourth time he has been named NWC Student-Athlete of the Week this season. He also received the honor on Dec. 15, Jan. 5 and Feb. 9.

    SALEM, ORE. -- George Fox University rallied from a 40-31 halftime deficit to defeat Willamette University, 89-81, in a Northwest Conference game at Cone Field House on Friday, Feb. 12. George Fox moved to 11-11 overall, 8-5 in the Northwest Conference. Willamette fell to 7-16 overall, 4-10 in the NWC. The loss ended Willamette's three-game winning streak.

The Pirates, ranked #15 in NCAA Division III by D3Hoops.com, upped their record to 16-2 overall and 9-0 in the NWC. The Bearcats fell to 4-14 overall, 1-8 in the NWC.

The Hoopsters for Haiti project will raise money during Willamette's home games against Pacific Lutheran University on Friday, Jan. 22 to help with the earthquake relief effort in Haiti .
